Funny this just popped up. I was on the Apple order screen for the iPad Pro 10.5 but couldn't decide if I should go 256 or 512. Leaning towards 512.

I'm leaning for 512GB... only problem is now my store won't offer the same release date as Apple.com or the 256GB storage option.

Kallum.
[doublepost=1496800616][/doublepost]Wouldn't let me do store pick-up but offered June 12th shipping (latest June 13) I bought 512GB Silver Wifi using my BBY credit card so I have a year to pay if I so choose, yes!... ;)
But I am pumped! My only complaint with this iPad is no haptic home button. I hope it has no issues with the traditional physical one. Many times recently on past iPad mini and iPhones the buttons shift and are loose. I hope this is not the case and won't be needing an exchange of any sort. *knock on wood, lol.

Agree on the 512. I'm not upgrading but if I were I would go for the larger storage. If you end up needing that much, the $200 will look awfully cheap.

I am curious as to why nowadays storage is that much more desirable? Although I was always happy when I would buy an ipad with 64gb storage rather than the 16gb the original ipad came with. But mostly satisfied my peace of mind as I never came close to maxing it out. I am getting ready to place an order for a 12.9" ipp so is there something I dont know as to why I might want 512gb over the 256gb I was going for (I cant even imagine why I need that much). I do use the new Affinity Photo for iPad with my existing ipp 9.7" w/32 gb storage, no problem. Other than Affinity Photo my uses are classic couch potato usage.

With the storage available the new iPads could be a credible alternative to a PC for many home-users. One of the limiting factors was always that you need somewhere to store stuff like photo libraries and the lower capacity devices couldn't meet that need.

Also, the size of media increases over time, especially with regard to digital photos where we now have many more mega-pixels than in the earlier days. Similarly, I used to use the option of limiting sample-rate for music on my iPhone, but with a 256GB device I no longer need to do this.

I've opted for a 256GB 12.9 Pro as an upgrade from my 128GB gen 1 device. 128GB is too restricting, but 256 should be ample for the next couple of years.

Yep. You can always use less space on the 512GB but you can't add more internal storage once you buy 256GB.

I've always gone big with storage for that very reason and I'm maxed out on my 64gb iPad 3 and have to keep moving photos to the iMac. When I order the new one I'll take the 3 back to original and we'll find a use for it but certainly won't be selling it.

I went with 512. If I'm shelling out as much money as the 256GB is in the first place, then I'm going all in. That, and the fact that I will be loading this thing up with media for when I travel, as well as artwork, PDFs, books, etc. Plus I can see myself wanting to use it for games. I am only using 25GB of my iPad Air, but I also don't use it for near what I'll be using this one for.

I'm starting work on my Ph.D. work in the fall. I figure I'll need the storage of the 512gb for the multitudes of writing and storing of sources through the Mendeley app. That and some music to listen to while I'm writing.

Facebook app used to be like 50MB or something. Last time I updated, it was 500MB and another 200MB for Facebook Messenger. I think my comics pretty much quadrupled in size with comiXology HD. As has been mentioned, offline storage helps with usage in areas with poor internet connectivity.

In any case, I've got a 24TB file server at home. 512GB is just a fraction of my media.

first world problem. $200 bucks more and I get double the storage and a $50 dollar gift card. Hmm
Damn... same or larger storage than most mobile devices on the market. I only have 64GB on my iPP9.7 and could not imagine what I would/could do with 512GB.

Iirc, the iPP9.7 was only released in the ff capacities: 32GB, 128GB & 256GB ;)

Considering I'm buying Apple care plus a case I rather save the $100 for Apple care over another 256gb of storage. 256 is fine for me to gonwith my 256gb Macbook Pro, iPhone 7 128gb and a 32gb Samsung galaxy tab s2 with 128gb micro sd card

I brought 128gb on my current 12.9 iPad Pro and regretted not getting the 256 - bit silly trying to save £100 or whatever the difference was. Infact, if had got the 256gb there is a good chance I might not be upgrading to the latest 12.9 iPad Pro now..

Same for my iPad mini 4 - only got 64gb - big mistake. Put a few movies on and all the massive apps + games and there is literally nothing left.

So I've gone for 512 on BOTH of my new iPad pros! :D 12.9 & 10.5... gonna sell my mini 4 (only 64gb) and current iPad Pro 12.9... and then Ive told myself I won't be upgrading for 2 years atleast :)rolleyes:)

Wish they'd upgrade the iPad mini - not even with pro features.. just an update - chip, true tone.. id buy it instantly... i love the mini. I think they will update it later this year.
