    What is that stuff ? Can I get ride of it ? Is it essential ?

    other includes any album art, notes, contacts, calender information, etc.

    ^ Yup, so I guess you need to decide how "essential" those pesky contacts are. :D

    I dont think it does. The OS is anywhere from 250MB to 297MB (smallest for the iPod touch, largest for the iPhone 3GS); many peoples' other is substantially less then that. On my iPod touch it's barely 100MB, on my iPhone it's barely 200MB.

    i thought it also included the apps you've downloaded. Is this not correct?

    Apps are in a different section

    Other also (I believe) includes cached data from the browser, apps, etc.

    No, apps have a separate category in iTunes.

    Sorry, that's what I meant. Not the apps them self but the data saved in them.
