I'm planning to order one of the 27" iMacs, mainly to use as a media hub and bedroom TV (using online streaming services and iTunes). I would be ordering the model with built-in wall mount.

Has anyone got any pictures or opinions about such a setup? Any tips? I'm thinking the base 27" model with 1TB Fusion Drive upgrade is the best bet. I'll also use the iMac for some photo editing and browsing, but this is a secondary use. The primary use is media streaming for our bedroom.

I'll likely mount the iMac on a tilt/swivel bracket, but not sure about wall positioning. Because I want to use the iMac as computer on occasion, I don't want it to be too far from the bed. Our side wall is about half a metre from the side of our bed, and I'm thinking that it would be mounted fairly close to the headboard end, so the iMac can swing out and allow us to do a little bit of TV watching on a lazy morning. This would also allow fairly comfortable use as a computer, albeit for a short amount of time.

I'd appreciate any comments from people with experience of this.

Thanks!
Sorry everyone else is being such a jerk to u, I'm sure they are just jealous...

I've tried this in our office to use as tv and as our computer. It was just too annoying for me honestly. Our tv service has a website to stream all channels from, but it was just more hassle than I wanted to deal with. U can't just use a remote like u can a tv. A tv is great for tv, just like a computer is great as a computer. Their primary purpose is very specific so if u try to make it do other things it will just be frustrating. Just from my experience...

I am neither bed-ridden, nor a sloth. As for the other comments, I've answered these questions before.

I want to use an iMac for this because there is no better solution matching my requirements. I don't particularly desire to use a computer in bed, but the iMac is much more than a conventional computer, as I outlined. For the limited uses that I do require a computer for (some editing, photo storage and transfer to iPad), the use case seems to work, even if less than ideal for these scenarios.

As I said, I'm now toying with the idea of putting the iMac in s stylish floor stand rather than mounting it. That will allow me to use it in other parts of the room for general computing, when required and stand it next to bed for occasional media consumption.

Lmao... you are like me.

You want that 5k iMac and you're trying to think of a feasible way to convince yourself its the ideal solution.

I'm contemplating buying one for my bedroom too as workstation by day and a media hub at night.

The issues I have are:
1. I already have a MBP
2. I have a gaming rig and a 50'' TV in my lounge which cost about the price of an iMac and do everything an iMac can do better apart from being seamless 5k beauty (a resolution I will not consume media on and a resolution no single graphics card can easily 5k game on)
3. 27'' is not really very big at all for media consumption. Its great for multi-window work but otherwise if you're not sitting at a desk, a bigger screen will be way better and nicer.

If you want the iMac, get it but don't try and get people here to convince you its the most ideal solution because its quite simply not.

For media consumption, its going to be hard to trump a good TV, definitely with 4k/5k plummeting in price and OLED coming to the forefront. 27'' IMO is way too small to really enjoy media and for the money you pay for an iMac, you don't want it to be a compromise for something which is pivotal for the device.

The swivel stand idea made me laugh. Its something I would have contemplated back when I was a kid and trying to convince myself a device is perfect for me.

FYI I'm not hating. I don't need an iMac 27'' but I'll probably end up still buying one because I believe it will allow me to enjoy my content such as youtube + the occasional bit of work I do at home much more (I'm a doctor).

I also find using a macbook pro for work or anything productive really ******.

A good TV is just so cheap now that the excuse of using an iMac for media consumption is silly.

now if you said you want a MONITOR.. thats a totally different situation where buying a monitor of the quality of an iMac 27'' 5k would edge me towards telling you to get the iMac for sure [this is the thought process I'm using ATM to convince myself :D).

Any thoughts on the Bretford? It's a quality product that'll look good.
I looked at mono price, and I'm not convinced any of it will look good enough for iMac.
