I finally got mine.
Here is a shot of the test picture.

I noticed that the bottom bar is a bit lighter than the one on top but as far as I can see, there is no yellowing.

There is a yellow patch on the right side of the display. It might be exaggerated slightly by the image, but definitely there.

Jero65 - Could you supply an image of the test-pattern please? :)

My display should be arriving on Friday, so I'll be sure to post the results.

Attached is a saturation-boosted version, showing color variations. The yellow can be seen from top to bottom on the right half.

Pretty sure all of those variations are just from the camera/angle and not necessarily a result of bad backlighting in the display. It's pretty typical of IPS displays (and all LCDs really) that when not viewed straight on the backlighting can look a little uneven. I don't see any yellowing in the image linked.

I hope and believe it's true :)
Could be possible because I made the pic with a very crappy build-in cam in my smartphone.
If I sit directly in front of the monitor and stare at it, I don't see anything wrong.
So either my subconscious doesn't care, my eyes are to weak or there is simply nothing wrong with the display.

Hopefully it is just the image taken at an angle. Perhaps it is my monitor which is causing the difference in image brightness to appear as yellow (Samsung T240). The image looks to have no yellow at all when viewed on my iPad screen. I think I'll write it off as a case of ancient-useless-inaccurate-monitor syndrome. ;)

---------------
Jaro65, could we see a shot of yours with that test-pattern?

If you're interested, I could try to take a 2nd picture with a better cam next week.
I'm just not at home at the moment and have thus no access to a better camera.

If you'd like to, sure. :)

My shipping status has changed to "Out for Delivery". It'll be here at around 9AM. So excited! Haha. xD

I received my seemingly yellow-free ACD on Friday, but have noticed some problems. Image is attached.

There is a definite dark band about 3 inches from the bottom of the panel, and dust under the glass at the right corner. And, sadly, some yellow tinge on the bottom half. No dead pixels though, neither in the iSight, nor display.

Have I been unlucky, and should I try a replacement (Apple send a new display, then pick this up afterwards)? Moreover, is it worth getting it replaced over this? The slight yellow and dust I can live with, but that dark band is driving me crazy. :(

I REALLY don't want to be exchanging this one forever as I did with the iMacs...

I am pretty sure that there isn't a single 27 inch made without that dark band on the bottom. The funny thing is now that I have color calibrated and adjusted my brightness a bit it is incredibly hard to see. It only shows up on grey colors anyway (especially on the OS X boot screen). Really not a big deal in my opinion.

I don't see any yellow in that picture, if it is there it's extremely faint and not really worth complaining about.

The dust shouldn't be an issue unless you are sitting inches away from the screen.

Hmm... Perhaps I will just have to live with it. Here, the bar only shows up on white/grey (although against a black screen, the backlight makes it very visible. It must be an impression of something against the panel/diffuser).

I'll probably just calibrate it and see how it looks from there - even now it is miles better than any of the iMacs. Probably get a "Spyder3" or "Eye 1 Display 2".

Is there component differences that would make the yellow better on these ACDs 27s than on the 27 iMacs?

Sorry to add something to this thread, is there anyone here who's having any backlight bleed issue on their 27"? I think I have, and I'm not sure whether I should change it. I'm just worried that another set might have a dead pixel in it, which mine doesn't. Thanks for your time.

I hope that someone can help me. I have a 27 inch iMac and bought a 27 inch cinema display. It's all plug and play, very nice. But the colors seem to be very different. The ACD is much more yellow, so I called apple to replace the monitor. All the while I found out that the colors on my iMac different in the lower part of the screen (they're famous for it) so it will be replaced in the near future.
The fact remains that the colors on the ACD are very different from the iMac, the taskbars of program windows are much more yellow. A white wallpaper results in a yellow wallpaper compared to the iMac, but the colors of the ACD are very equal compared to the iMac, no banding or different tinges of colors in the lower parts etc.
So I did the test and made a photograph (bad telephone-camera quality, don't have a photo camera).
Can someone tell me wether the colors are good or faulty?

You need to calibrate the screens using an external device. No LCD is going to perfectly match another straight out the box, but calibration will fix it.

Something akin to the Huey Pro will do the job, and cheaply, for you.

is this okay?

hi, just bought mine last weekend, i noticed a bit of yellow tinge in the bottom right of my screen, is this okay?

I've had a27" iMac for 'round 20 months now.
After whole the scare at the time of the new iMac's launch, I had a good look at my CTO when I got it home.

Sure as **ll, the yellow tinge was there, as was the non-uniform brightness.
The funny thing was, I soon noticed, that depending on my viewing angle, the lighter/darker and yellow/not so yellow areas started shifting.
I mentioned this in FB to a pro cinematographer/photographer friend of mine, who came over with some pro level calibration equipment and did a good half hours of measurements and concluded that while color range and uniformity and uniformity of brightness were not the best he'd ever seen, they were among the best he'd seen in a non-pro monitor (by which he meant a monitor in the 2000€+ class).

He himself was pleased with the results, as their company was contemplating some iMacs and said he'd suspected that while some iMacs may really have had issues (as does any first batch), the scare was greatly exaggerated.

Naturally I've been happy ever since, and guess what: I seriously believe the "viewing angle" explanation (for 99% of the complaints). This monitor is just too darned big for this viewing distance. At about 57 cm (27") (diagonal), with me sitting back (in normal working position), I'm at 50 cm from the monitor. That's comparable to you sitting roughly a metre from your 50" plasma tv. Common sense should tell you, that's too close.

I like the resolution, but I'd rather have this resolution in a nice 17" display. Then again, I still have good eyesight.

(I've noticed something else as well. I've had problems with this display emitting too much light. For it not to blind me in the evenings I've needed to radically increase the study's background lighting, choose a dark desktop picture and try to minimize the amount of simultaneously open windows.)
