UPDATE: Once again i have pwn3d the genius bar and the n00bs at MR, and proved the world wronk...
Because I am a cheap bastard and didn't want to shell out $150 for a new screen, I removed the LCD to see what was going on an what (if anything) I could do.
The one thing that caught my eye was the 4 large screws on the back of the panel. Knowing that I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, I removed those screws and both the black and silver metal tape allowing me to lift up the metal cover.
Underneath the metal cover, lies the LCD's logic board or as it is commonly called by TV repair
PROFESSIONALS the
"T-Con board". It's super easy to remove and it held on with two little alligator clips. Simply lift them up and slide it out.
Part numbers on this board are:
LM27WQ1-SDA2
6870C-0301A_EVT2_Rev1.0
E88441
AB508D
197483
Because I couldn't find one for sale anywhere in the US, I purchased a cracked 27"-iMac on eBay for $45 and swapped the boards out.
Replaced the panel and boom. No more dimness and I can watch HD pr0n again.
