$275-300

Went by the Apple Store and they quoted me $275-300 to replace the 1TB drive. Given the hassle it sounds like this replacement will be, a $200 premium for the service seems reasonable.
They were unwilling to add an SSD. I guess I'll just plan to do that the next iMac.
 
Installed the parts today and all good! I cant say anything about the fan settings yet as I am restoring from a time machine back up to the HDD first on Snow Leopard and will get a copy of Mountain Lion to install on the SSD for my new OS and then Im hoping to use migration assistant to copy everything over.

But man its fiddly inside these housings. I have massive hands so it was truly harrowing there a few times trying to get some of those tiny plugs out and back in without breaking them. But its really not all that difficult to do the mechanical work on this swap imo. It looks daunting but the plugs can only go back in one way....
