27” iMac ram-

I received my new 27” iMac, came with 16gb ram.
My question- what slots were you stock ram sticks in 1 and 3 or 2 and 4?
My iMac with 16gb- 2x8gb sticks came installed in 2 and 4. Seemed weird to me that it wasn’t 1 and 3 so I thought I ask.

Are you asking out of curiosity or to determine if there is a correct (and incorrect) configuration?

It's been over 7 months since I took delivery of my own iMac so I can't remember for sure now but so long as matching RAM is in alternating slots it doesn't matter because it works just as well either way.

Just received my 2017 iMac few days ago, the stock ram was in 2 & 4

Just curious why not 1 and 3.
I added 2 more 8gb sticks

That just seems to be their default, no good reason i’d imagine just a decision made and used ever since.
