I have been told and shown by fedex the 27" imac include original box and access is 19.3kg but on Apple site it says the 27" iMac by itself weights 13.8kg could boxes and keyboard mouse weight 5.5kg? Could someone who just got their new imac 27" still in the box weight it too see how heavy it is please :D? As Im thinking of buying it overseas while on holiday

    Thank in advance

FedEx told me it weighed 42.4lbs which is about 19kg, so you should be ok.

Wont you have to pay import VAT on it when you enter your home country? Or is it still a better deal despite this?

So just the box and keyboard is about 5kg weight? Although its below 20kg which is around what I could take but I do really still want to take other stuff. Im living in New Zealand and it costs $3200 NZD here, if I buy from where Im going convert to my currency its $2750 NZD hence I save $450 NZD, Im not too sure about the tax, as I usually bring laptops into the country and they never charged me. I would have to research more into that too, to see if I do get charged how much would it be.

    Thanks

Are you checking it in? It may not be a weight issue, but a physical box size issue.

Which part of NZ are you? Usually at Christchurch they dont really care with what you bring except food, and especially medcine. They always just x ray non food stuff, and I usually have them in seperate box...

The 27" iMac in the brown shipping box weighs on average 19.1 kilos. I work for a reseller and just spent most of the day lifting the damned things into our stock cage.

Hey, so they keyboard and mouse and the box and accessories etc all add up to 5.5kg?

Given the 27" imac itself is suppose to be 13.5kg.

OP, I don't think you will have a problem checking in the iMac. It will be less than 23 kg, which is what most carriers allow on international flights. The problem that you will face however is that the maximum liability for a piece of checked-in luggage is approx 1500 USD. Thus, if your iMac gets damaged or stolen, the airline would only reimburse you up to 1500 USD.

OP, I wonder if you can get supplemental travelers insurance and if that would cover the difference above the $1500? Might be worth looking into.
