Mine comes with a 3TB Fusion drive. Couldn't be happier with it. It is fast and there is no delay + I have enough space for most of my entertainment medias and more or less 1TB free for my commercial projects. Once I get them done, I copy everything to an external drive.

So, the question really is: Do you have enough space on a 512GB SSD? If not, do you have enough available space on fast enough external HDD/SDDs?

I have decided to also get the $2599 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro. I know that the iMac has 8GB and the MacBook Pro has 16GB, but benchmarks only show a slight difference, my 2009 iMac that I'm still using until my new one gets here on July 23 seems to run pretty well under 8GB. Also, since both macs are 2013 verisons, I'm guessing that the new 2014 models are on the horrizon, and my investment in the laptop and desktop only needs to last me for a year at best, so I dont need any sort of futureproofing, and none of the editing I do on the computer is professional. The only reason why my MacBook Pro will have 16GB is because I need 512GB and I cant get that from the $1999 model.

As a side note, when can we expect that Retina iMac?? And the 2014 Mac product line to be released???

Update 2

I got the 27 inch iMac along with a 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro, and I LOVE both computers so much!!! The 13 inch size is just perfect for me, and I can take it anywhere I travel which is great. I also noticed that with my needs, 8GB is PLENTY of RAM, and both machines are very fast, although my 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro really has me wanting a Retina iMac.

Is a Retina iMac in the works for a 2014 launch???

seems so...i think they will go with 21.5" with 1440p and for the 27" 4k
we will see in October if the rumours are true, but it is time for Apple to go 4K display

I have the same setup, except that my iMac is from 2012. I used to have an 11" MBA, but changed it into the rMBP last fall. I can miss the extreme portability of the MBA, but as soon as I start some more intensive apps on the rMBP, I'm satisfied with the extra power.

And even if my iMac is 1.5 years old, it's still pretty powerful.
