but if you can see on fullscreen what usb records in the moment you play on Xbox..well is it made?

Pretty much all the other posts sum up that any 'capture' device, albeit being realtime will have too much lag to make it playable... so we'll have to wait until (if?) Kanex can break down the hardware and come up with something.

The Intensity Shuttle captures video over Thunderbolt though... at 10Gbps it should be fast enough to work w/o lag. The only issue is finding a software application that lets you preview video full screen and not in a tiny window. Anyone know if there is an app that can do this? VLC perhaps?

Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt

That uses HDMI, no way to plug it into your ACD27". But how about the Thunderbolt Intensity Shuttle?
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/models/

Anyone know if it works full screen with VLC?

I have waited for months for this thing to ship. It arrived today and so far tonight I've had about six crying cussing hissy fits. This shuttle was supposed to be the thing to allow me to record from the directv box, hdmi to hard drive via thunderbolt. I want to capture parts of tv shows and put them on dvd's.

So far I've become lost in a maze of option menus that come with the shuttle's Media Express capture software. I don't know if it can work because I don't have a clue as to the correct answers to the software's choices. So far I have learned nothing positive. But I only have about three million possible combinations to try so I'll let you know should I find out.

Yes it is (2010)and i agree, cause the way Thunderbolt is used by Apple is very closed,
just Macs with TBolt are able to drive their Tbolt displays.(correct me if ..)
but not all,Mac pro can't and being an headless machine.."is strange."( i know iys due by motherboard limitation..limits,while Ivy can).it can't,
'cause Apple is not letting them able even by means of a Pci card adapter...
so i hope, but i don't think it will..,to see Thunderbolt on Pc,Xbox...as suggested by some new machines having Thunderbolt on them..(not yet on the market as far i know, braked to do it..by some decisìons..i see taken by both Apple and Intel ).
But Maybe...,and this is a wild speculation by me,the Imac 2012 delay, the Mac pro rumors about 2013,the uncompatibility between today and (i hope not) next consoles..and the Itv are all pointing to a new kind of Mac line..
A stackable Mac which ranges from the mini level to the pro level using modules..and a display line from Cinema Displays to Itv.
Does this make any sense?Who buys 2011 Imac will be able to use with the new "2013 mac" , Apple simplify costs making Mac more affordable..and protects its interest in game-entertainement area...,then if you think it minis have an hdmi..and a thunderbolt too..,but i think my speculation is way too complicate..just a weird X dream:D and i went off topic...so sorry,i apologize.

Intensity Shuttle

Any luck, MacPest?

Sorry I haven't replied, I've been MIA awhile. No good luck yet. Here is my sad story about how I got into this mess. I had used it to reply to someone about to embark on the perilous vhs editing quest, in the video edit thread. Someone was asking questions about the Intensity shuttle so I decided to whine about it for a while.

"I bought one and I have nearly lost my mind trying to capture anything. I'm not a gamer and my main goal was to capture programs from the Directv box. My secondary goal was to sort through about 200 vhs tapes. So far the best that's been captured is a stuttering resolution of 480 from my Bluray.

My husband is a computer literate person, I'm not, I just want to see the magic. I don't care how it works but it had better work. He bought this iMac 27" and asked all the right questions about what was needed on the machine to do the video capturing that it was purchased to do. He bought what was deemed appropriate by a "genius". My old video editing setup was a pc running xp and an ancient Matrox device (Matrox X) and Premiere 7. The old stuff was falling apart and was a real pain to maintain with diminishing rewards. My "I.T." man thought to escape the whole mess with an iMac that was going to be so simple to use that his help would never be needed again.

Life here hasn't been so great lately. We called support where we ordered the shuttle from, Core MicroSystems, and were told that we definitely needed an external drive, and a Time Base Corrector for the vhs project. The extra hard drive seemed reasonable since the old Matrox and Premiere wanted two drives available so we got that. A Time Base Corrector costs about the same as the shuttle did and the results weren't guaranteed.

Time to bail! I have ordered a Matrox Mini Max tb and it has the Time Base Corrector in it that keeps the audio in sync for at least and hour. It is expensive ($600-$800 depending on details) but Premiere Elements with authoring and photo stuff isn't ($99.00 on sale) and comes with PC and Mac software in the package, so that's something. I expect delivery any minute now and am very hopeful. I ordered the Matrox from Videoguys after speaking with a support guy that was nice enough to listen to my story and make suggestions.

I haven't returned the Intensity since all roads must be explored in the search for the magic and I am not sure that it can't be done with the shuttle. I would not suggest that a friend should buy the Intensity Shuttle at this point.

I'll let you know what happens. I haven't thrown out the old pc and the Matrox is easy to move from the iMac."

I was hoping to get the tantalizing Intensity shuttle to make my dreams come true. It has such a desirable i/o for everything. Then reality set in when I realized how ignorant I was of Directv and their copy protection obsession. That and the problem getting non-studio quality vhs tapes to capture in a straight forward fashion. I'm going to unload all the software that came with the shuttle and see if it can be used to capture with something else.

Any ideas?

The intensity extreme can play ps3 via thunderbolt on mac without lag, but only on a small screen within the apps window. Just need it full screen and it would be sorted. Capture and veiwing. Will try to let blackmagic know if they push an update to allow. Shouldn't be difficult.

What output cabling from PS3?

Interesting. Will look forward this.

I don't understand why Apple can't stop being so damn ignorant with their new Thunderbolt technology and at least add HDMI support to their monitors and iMac's. I'm getting tired of having to buy Dell Ultrasharps or other brand secondary monitors to go along with my iMac all because I can't hook up my PS3, PC, or anything else non-Mac to their new Thunderbolt displays.

Amen. I like Apple, but they suck in this area.

Call Apple, send them an email, let them hear that they messed up in this area. That's the only thing that works.
