27-inch iMac - Yellow Tinge

hmm...really hope that at least this version of the i5/i7 comes without no problem what so ever. hope they make a full revision on the machine before putting it out on the streets, it would be a even bigger sh***t having all the machines having problems

Remember that it might not be a wide-spread problem. It might just be a few batches with bad screens. Those who had problems have checked with their retailers and their machines had the same fault - probably because they came from the same original batch.

I do believe that if all machines had this, we would have heard more whining...

I don't have yellowing on my 27 screen at all.

Could be some bad batches as others have mentioned.

I'm sure if it's noticeable you could return it immediately for another, and another, and another... until you either get a massive discount or a perfect screen or both.
 
Today after i get out of work, went to a store, and specifically looked at the bottom of the screen of an 27" and nothing there, went there with the finder page and nothing at all. I guess that's really about the batches.

PS: had opened a safari window...............GOD DAMN!! that's nice to surf, never thought to be so thhaaaaaat big. 😀 can't wait to have mine.
 
hi! just went to a electronics store (im from portugal) and no yellow tinge in the display. could you be specific which display are you using that has the yellow tinge? they use many brands it could be in a specific brand.
 
Got my machine replaced today. No more yellow tinge...but now I have a dead pixel smack bang in the centre of the screen. FML.
 
And now I've just discovered that whenever I dim the screen brightness my iMac makes a buzzing noise. FML X2 🙁

Excellent news that there are iMacs without this yellow tint!

I will have mine replaced. Thanks for the updates!

I hate to be a downer, but since the introduction of the aluminum iMacs (which, in the 24" size, have always had IPS displays, btw), I haven't seen a single one without some degree of yellowing in the centre/bottom of the screen. I don't know what causes the problem, but it's definitely there on many of them. Most users won't even notice it if you don't point it out...but if you're the kind of person bothered by this kind of thing, I recommend exchanging the computer until you're satisfied with the screen.
 
sorry but that yellowish screen ..and i dont know but in the picture posted i can make out a tendency to yellow all over the screen , its more yellowish greenish grey all over the screen on the bottom only a bit more ..sorry cant sell me that
my eye`s are to sensible 🙂 might be allright if you are colorblind

bring it back where you bought it from 😀

I have attached a file with this post called "greycheck.jpg". Download it, open it in Preview and start Slideshow to put it up in full size. Compare the upper and the lower grey bars - do they have the same tone? On my screen the upper one looks ok and the lower one is yellow. Much warmer tone. If I try to calibrate so that the lower grey bar looks ok then the upper grey bar looks purple/blueish (of course).

I will ask for mine to be repaired or replaced and we'll see if I get another one with the same issue.

Interesting. Mine definitely looks yellower on the bottom bar, though the effect is not intolerable, and I wonder about what the risk of dead pixels, etc. is if you bring one back. (See above.)

I also notice that if I scootch down and look from below or with my eye aligned to the bottom bar, the effect is still there but greatly lessened - I wonder if it has something to do with the alignment of the panel or of the light source.

if you take the digital color meter, the two gray bars in your image aren't exactly the same color. here's a snippet of HTML which will draw that same image in a browser... that makes it easier for people to change the sizes and colors of things (if they're so inclined).

just cut and paste the code into a file and open it in a browser (e.g. double click the file) and make the browser full screen (you'll probably need to hide the dock).

You people are overreacting and being overly sensitive. There's no yellow tin...

Oh.

Hm.

My screen seems to have a warmer color temp at the bottom than at the top now that I look closely.

Crap.

That's going to cause some fun little graphic design problems.
 
Funny I didn't notice any non-uniformity until I saw this thread. Power of suggestion or I'm extremely unobservant...😎
 
Just came back from an Apple Store. Looks like all the unit there had it too. It must be 'normal'. Strange.
 
Same with 20" Core Duo

I am planning to buy an i5 imminently and am wondering what I may be in for. The 'Yellow Tinge' issue seemed frightening until I did the little finder window test on my current iMac. Lo and behold, color temperature varies quite a bit to to bottom and it never really bothered me.

Now if I can just get one without a cracked lower left corner and no screen flicker.
 
I got both a 27" c2d and an i7, both are yellowish at the bottom. It's quite a small variation though, so I think I'll stick with it. Seeing problems with harddrives, dead pixels, dust behind glass and everything else, and also concidering how many displays seem to have the tinge, it doesn't seem worth the effort so send it back and get a new one with any other potential problems. Especially since I waited for what seemed forever and just finally got it. Wait for it AGAIN? Doesn't feel to appealing.
