27-inch iMac - Yellow Tinge

Guys, don't feed the troll. He did this crap over on the Apple Support forums until he eventually got bored and moved on. Now he's taking this thread off-topic and drawing people into his little world with his over-the-top and inflammatory statements. Just wait until he starts telling us how rich he is (serious)!
 
I got mine on friday using the bars the bottom ones look a little yellow, however no broke glass no flckering, no crashes so I am not complaining even the dreaded gloss screen looks good in my back dark room I sit in! Now if I had known CS2 wouldn't work (so far) !!!!!

If you'll notice, that display actually has 100% of sRGB, and only 96% of RGB. Hardly the 110%+ of RGB that the troll was claiming RGB LED backlit displays should be capable of.

I seriously think this criticism is overblown, and I haven't found an RGB gamut spec detailed ANYWHERE for the new display, but I've read dozens of accounts of people (professionals) calibrating them and remarking how accurate they are and how little calibration they needed. Everyone but bluebermuda seems to think that this is the best display Apple has ever MADE, yet somehow, he still asserts that it's crap.

...we'll see. I'm a Colorist. I can't afford a 50,000 dollar pro-level display, but I can tell when something isn't right. I'll let you all know on the 16th.

LOL and why pray tell would a proper RGB LED monitor not go on an iMac?

Could it be because Apple knows that it can fool most of the people most of the time?

What is really funny and sad at the same time is that people that "claim" to be professionals are purchasing the new iMac. The late 2009 iMac is a consumer computer with serious build problems. End of story.

While this is off topic, but that's a pretty nice screen using H-IPS. I don't want to believe that Apple is using the cheap eIPS panels, but it seems that may well be the case right now (look at the yellow tinge test poll). Even those who did not see the yellowing are starting to see them after 48 hours or so.

I think someone asked you to "put up or shut up" in terms of your mis-guided information on Apple panels. I see you've conveniently side stepped the challenge. The 2 minute burger button is going off at your grilling station...now get back to work.

Really and how pray tell do you propose that one calibrate a screen with a yellow sweat stained effect due to cheap "white" LEDS?

Who said that you need a $50,000 display. The Dell UltraSharp U2410 Monitor is very reasonably priced at only $529.00.

Oh, BOY, here we go with the "anyone who doesn't spend eight million dollars on top shelf pro equipment must not be a pro" bullhonkey. Let me tell you boy, I've done better work on a consumer level computer in a professional capacity than a great many pros have done on a seriously expensive setup... and how do I know? Because half the time, I was re-doing what the so-called "pros" with their high end gear screwed the pooch on.

I've spent plenty of time on Mac Pros, and plenty of time on my Hackintosh at home, some more on MacBooks, and yes, even iMacs. The new i7 is an awesome computer, and it's what I'm buying for home. Would I outfit a post-house that needs to online 2k and 4k with a fibre-channel RAID? Hell no. That doesn't mean it's useless or "not pro-capable".

It doesn't matter if the Mac has "pro" in its name, it matters what you DO with that Mac, and so far, bub, I've not seen you do anything but complain and insult people. It's obvious to anyone that there's NOTHING professional about THAT.

Like I said, I'm not going to settle for a yellow display. If I need to, I'll send it back until I get one that's RIGHT.

...And the Dell UltraSharp U2410 isn't exactly what I'd call a broadcast monitor.

What would you propose that I do? Apple uses "white" LEDS and not the superior RGB LEDS. If you choose to place your head in the sand like an ostrich and deny the obvious then you are truly lost.

If you purchased a late 2009 iMac for professional work then..........you have been taken for a fool.

I know I shouldn't feed the troll( 😉 ), but he may be right about the factory shutdown. Even though the 27" iMac Core i5/i7 has a shipping time of 7-10 days, I just ordered a 27" iMac Core i7 and it has a shipping date of December 21st which is well outside the 7-10 days.

Just saying.

This week 5 days, next week would be 10. December 21st is 11 days. This is not including weekends of course. So maybe I was a bit wrong using the word, well outside 7-10 days 🙂

It just feels like a long time maybe. 😛
 
Is there anyone out there who dose not have this yellow tinge issue?? I'm expecting my i5 to arrive in 2 weeks and this issue has definitely worried me.

I hardly want to step into the silly back and forth here, but just as an FYI, you should check out the HP DreamColor display and some of the reviews if you want to see what an RGBLED display will do. It's the $2,000 alternative to the pro displays you're thinking of - been thinking of replacing my now returned i7 with a Pro and one of these.

Frankly, I find it extremely interesting to observe the typical Apple buyer when confronted with the truth. They can not handle the truth as it creates far too much cognitive dissonance.

If you are an trial attorney, then depending on the trial, you should probably try to place Apple users on the jury. They tend to be right brained, artistic and highly emotional; in short, the perfect juror that will succumb to your silver tounge and thus can be can be led in the direction that you desire. 😀

The thing is...what do you suggest as an alternative? ALL of the Apple desktops are "crap" in some way. I like the "idea" of the iMac, and assuming it all worked, it would be a good enough machine for me without question. I would gladly get that Dell with a Mac Pro IF the Mac Pro's weren't such astounding rip offs. One can certainly make the argument that Apple doesn't sell a SINGLE "pro" machine. In that case, the iMac, if working, can be deemed "good" by someone who is picky like myself. I have done my share of Apple bashing on this site. If you absolutely have to use OSX, at some point you have to quit complaining and just get on with it.

Not really sure what to do at this point...I pretty much NEED a desktop, but don't want to pay for an overpriced and underpowered mac mini, an overpriced (and I guess relatively underpowered) mac pro, or an iMac that is an "ok" value, but apparently is built like a turd. What the heck Apple?

I agree. I was initially very interested in the new iMac, the design is fantastic, however the build quality leaves much to be desired.

The cheap white LED back lit screen will always be problematic and is an unchangeable component of the late 2009 iMac. The screen together with the high pitched whine problem, the flickering black out problem and the shattered glass screens preclude a rational consumer from even considering an iMac at this time.

Hopefully, Apple will improve the iMac over time. In the interim there are more compelling computers on the market. Specifically the Dell XPS 9000, together with the Dell UltraSharp U2410 monitor. Widows 7 is very stable and quite elegant, so unless you absolutely must have the candy coated Snow Leopard OS, I feel that the time has come to "dust our feet" from Apple and move forward.

While it is certainly true that the Vista debacle helped Apple in the short run, it is also true that Windows 7 is the Apple killer.

The late 2009 iMac is like a bad car wreck. The only thing left to do at this point is to move on and don't look back. 😀

Not really an option for me, I write iPhone software and music software on OSX is generally much less of a headache because of how Core Audio is built into the OS and you don't have to use any kind of kludge like ASIO...

See what kind of silly predicament I am in? 🙄
