iPad Pro 27” iPad

Like a surface studio? I’m down. It sounds like a crazy idea at first glance, but as the iPad moves more and more towards being as good as a Mac, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m a few years time we get iPad os desktops. Not as crazy as it sounds

It might be designated an 'Apple Smart Micro LED monitor', and not an iPad.

With features:

1) Built in iPad OS
2) Pen enabled
3) Dual hardware Monitor/standalone functionality.
And maybe a built in battery for mobile use, where an outlet is unavailable. So technically it would be an iPad and a monitor, but it would discourage all the purists who would get all in a bunch.

So you would have Mac OS, keyboard switchable to iPad OS (and portability), and BEST the MS Surface.

They should maybe do this to all iPads. Or at least starting with the 12". Then again, they are good as they are. No complaints.

Doesn’t the 12.9” iPad Pro already cost $2,000 maxed out? A 27” anything from Apple is going to be north of $3k, especially in the frame for release of such a large touch screen from Apple 😂

Depends on your need. iPad apps are crippled because iPad has for a long tome been viewed as a toy or a large iPhone by the tech community. Things change. What in iPadOS makes it impossible to run a full version of word, excel etc? Keynote is already on par with the desktop version. I guess nothing but the hardware need to be there such as larger screens, CPU and GPU powers and lots of RAM. Five years ago, these thing where not there. Now it is.

With Sidecar capable mac mini, it it not far from what you describe.

How about a 27” iPad 5K 100-240V AC for the desktop as a cheaper option than an 27” iMac? That would be good enough for my needs.

No, never need an iPad that size. The most I could ever go is 15-17". The thing would be too thin and just bend over the side of your hands holding it. lol 😉

Not for me. Until Apple sorts out a way of keeping the A chips cool and include a decent amount of RAM, I do not want a larger iPad Pro. Besides, the price point already is ridiculous.

Shame that Apple did not release the Surface Studio first (If MS releases a smaller, more affordable version with modern internals, I'd try it).

It's not clear what purpose a 27" iPad would serve that wouldn't be better served by other desktops already on the market. The strengths of an iPad are it's mobility, itouch interface, and library of mobile games. But are those strengths worth it for a desktop-like machine in the $2000+ range? I can't imagine there being a very big audience for such a device, but I'm no expert so take my opinion with a huge grain of salt.

I’m also not convinced that a large library of games is a strength of the iPad at all. It’s just like any other computer platform and has tons of apps of all different genres available. It’s not just a gaming platform by any means - but of course it has many more games to offer than any Mac ever got.

iPad Pro devices already reach close to 13” inch which seems a popular size for notebooks already.

I see 15.6" as a definite possibilty. For art, and control surfaces. I depends how well Apple can integrate--Imagine
a Logic mixing desk comprised of 3 15.6" ipads

That would be cool. Maybe a Microsoft Surface Studio type setup, but with the superior iPad touchscreen. I wonder if I can dyi a stand like that for my 12.9

I want a 60" Ipad. It'd be great on my couch, until the weight of it cut the blood circulation to my legs. But I wouldn't complain. That's because Kevin across the street had bought the 42" Ipad last year and I got this to rub his face in it.

I don't have any use cases that make such a device useful or desirable for me. I'm a retired engineer and love tech toys but this one just doesn't have any appeal to me.

Interestingly, we had the same debate about the 12.9 when that was released: there is no use case, this is a niche market product, it is a desktop device, it not portable enough etc.

I think we firstly see a 15-16 inch (later this year with miniLED) and then larger models but apps, iPadOS and hardware must co-evolve for some years.

We heard rumours about an ARM based Mac (not from Apple though) and I simply do not see the point when capable AYYX processors exist and a growing number of desktop apps are developed.
