I bought a secondhand 29W charger, and I'm trying to tell if it's genuine or counterfeit.

I've heard one way to tell (without ripping it apart) is to weigh it, but I couldn't find anywhere on the web how much this thing should weigh exactly. On Amazon it's saying it should weigh 130g, but I'm not sure if that's on the charger only or including the box & papers and all that.

    Mine is at 91g (without duckhead), 122g (with 220V Euro/Asia 2-pin plug).

Can anyone with a genuine charger from Apple verify these numbers (especially without the duckhead)?

    Thanks.

Post a picture of the labeling on the charger itself.

Outer appearance of the charger is exactly the same as that of any other genuine charger.
But that hardly means anything really unless you pop it open.

Every fake charger I've ever seen has noticeable differences on the label print vs. real/OEM.

So this one appears to weigh the same as mine.

And this one I guess is with the US duckhead.

I guess I do have a legitimate one, and I was just getting paranoid :)
    Thanks!

Is weight a good indicator of genuine ness?

It almost looks like the box mine came in has a different font but could’ve been from a different time

Just bought 2x 29w from Walmart genuine

Those and the one I’ve had over a year from eBay are 108g

The best way to tell is cord thickness and font on the label of the brick, box, AND cable. I got a bogus one once and I was able to sniff it out by comparing the font on the cable itself to my other Apple cables. (It’s hard to find, but it’s there.) Also the Apple USB-C cables are thicker and heavier than a standard lightning cable.

Gonna be on the side of cautious and just not use it anymore since I picked up a few 29w that are for sure real from Walmart.

Just hope I didn’t do any long term damage to my devices or Nintendo switch but too late now! Lesson learned moving forward to spend more or wait for a good deal from a direct reseller

Genie Weighs the same and seems legit but knockoffs are so good hard to tell

I have seen font saturation vary on the 5w cube was that are genuine probably across multiple manufacturers and factories
