2g iphone jailbroken using Rogers in Canada

The iphone wasn't available in Canada until the release of the 3g. Does anybody know I can use itunes to upgrade the firmware of this older style 2g phone without bricking it. I have a Rogers sim card in it that I used with my older phone.
