well a 2gb stick can be as cheap as £65 now so not too band. I am self emplyed web developer so Photoshop, Dreamweaver and the spinning beach ball are always open.
I remember my iBook went from 256mb - 768mb and my Powermac went from 512mb - 2.5gb and it was noticable.

In theory, that should be the case, but the OWC benchmarks for MBs with multiple memory configurations show that there is a performance advantage having more memory (whether or not the sticks are matched) and user reports (e.g. on this forum) have the same conculsion.
a friend of mine was bragging the other day about how he's gone from 2GB to 2GB in a Macbook the other day, and now he doesn't see the splash screen in photoshop. food for thought, maybe - I'm sure it was a mild exaggeration
