So I just got my ipad a couple weeks ago and searching for the right kind of case.
I got the smart case at fire and was not pleased with the fitment and caused some problems with my speaker crackling.
I then returned it and got the Moshi origami case and absolutely love it except for the fact that the cover causes the screen to shut off erroneously when flipped over to the back. I am sending that one back tommorow

Any suggestions for a slim type smart type case like the Moshi? I did like the fit and finish. Not sure if the cover is the issue or the hard button cover or the power button?

I saw some reccomentations for a decent leatherette one on amazon for like $15 but my fear is it will be too bulky

I wouldn't go cheap on an ipad mini case. I have done that and the materials always start stripping away or falling apart. I like the Incipio LGND or the Moshi Iglaze.

Amazon = cheap. Buy from a reputable manufacturer.

Not really. I bought from them so many times and I have been satisfied with the products. I bought the dresuit mini case from them for $5.99 shipped and its the case I am using now. Case is nice and I like it.

Mmmmm, I'm not sure I agree? Ebay maybe, but Amazon? Most reputable manufacturers have products sold on Amazon.

Anyway, back on topic, I have the Caudabe Shell for my iPad 4 and my husband bought the Caudabe Mini Shell for his iPad mini. (Both bought on Amazon by the way, thus my earlier comment.) We couldn't be happier. Great quality back covers and they go well with our smart covers.

The cases I am about to suggest are not exactly $15. You get what you pay for - in most cases. I am the owner of Strotter (strotter.com), a small US start-up; we design, make, and sell world-wide high quality, hands-free iPad cases and bags. Our case is called Across, and the bag is called Platforma. Prices start at $55 for a synthetic leather case: http://strotter.com/products/across-leather-case. Feel free to ask questions.

$5.99? That is really cheap. I bought from this site:http://www.ordersmax.com/p-17346962718-Smart-Cover-for-New-iPad-the-most-perfect-&-iPad-iPad%3E-holster-.html
It is great, although a little expensive.
