2nd drive bay question

I recently installed a LG blu-ray burner in my second drive bay and every few minutes it spins up loudly even when there is no disc in it. Has anyone else experienced this? The drive otherwise performs beautifully.

I have an LG BD-R drive in mine, I found that keeping a blank disc in it when not using it stops it from spinning up.
