We added a second forum database server this evening. It may help with performance but also gives us a much better way to backup the database on a regular basis.

Previously, there would be 15-30 minutes of dead time late Sunday evening, while the database was taken offline to backup. Now we'll have daily backups. As an added benefit, the forums may also see a performance boost with the added server.

Wait, no more 15-20 minute Sunday maintenance screens that could have lend a hand towards new threads about possible new products and conspiracies? Bummer!

Good news! :)

The machinery that runs the forums already looks like a Q:

(I took this photo at a museum last week.)

Seriously, having another server is a welcome addition, as forum traffic continues to grow. And people expect the forums to be live 24/7. With a worldwide audience there's no good time to be "down for maintenance."

You could take Christmas Day to do maintenance :D What fun! I'm joking obviously. Unless you're that dedicated ;)
