OK, so I have a new Maxtor hard drive now connected to a SATA PCI card (see specs below), and I've moved my entire iTunes collection to that harddrive.

However, everytime I click on iTunes and try to start a song, the drive makes this chime and has to start up before playing the song. I get a 5 second beach ball basically.

I looked under the energy savings and saw the "Put drives to sleep when possible" option and I thought that unclicking this might do the trick.

If that will solve my problem, will this make my drive fail earlier?

Thanks!

My second drive still spins down all the time, no matter what I have checked in the preference. I have just accepted it as a tradeoff for me moving my tunes/photos to a second drive.

I am curious how I could keep it from spinning down as well...
