Clearly I'm missing the obvious. I've signed into my apple iCloud on my iPad with cellular. I have a second phone line/number that I would like to use instead of my iPhone/iCloud's number to send and receive texts on iMessage.

How do I go about being signed into my apple iCloud account yet use a second phone line on my iPad for iMessages? If I try an add the 2 number to iCloud it wants to send me a text verification yet I can't receive texts at the number until iCloud lets me add the 2nd number???

I hope this is understandable as I'm obviously missing the obvious. Any insights to suggestions would be greatly helpful

thanks

Are you sure the number actually works for messaging? When I had a cellular iPad a while back it was purely a data plan and you couldn’t message, phone that number.

thanks for the replies, yes it's a regular phone plan/line not an add on data plan - its through Mint
my iPhone has it's own number associated with with the apple account just want to add this number as well.

Yeah I don’t think it works like that sadly. It may have a number, but it’s only used for data on the iPad.

I don't care so much about have phone capabilities on the iPad as much as combing the 2nd line into my Apple ID so I can use iMessage with that number. or is there a third party app people trust for texts (apologies if this is a can of worms question)?

thanks again for the responses
