Mike how hard was it to open & close the enclosure?

Easier than most I have done this to.

Have to be a bit determined with a strong fingernail to get it started. The top plate is metal. Try to avoid bending it during the removal.

I did it to two of them and was able to re-assemble them with other HDDs and they look like new.

So opening it up is tool-less? The metal lid is attached to the plastic container via friction/clip?

Thanks Mike. Any seal of any sort so that will allow Seagate to detect whether the case was opened or not? ;)

No you don't have to break any seals, but I think an examination by Seagate would show it had been opened.

The HDD is wrapped in metal foil which is impossible to peel off and put back pristinely.

That's fair I guess. I hope they sell the internal drive soon. There are a lot of people looking for it.

......as have two people in this thread (one of whom was me!)

*Fiannly been waiting for this drive to become available> although I'm sort of weary about it's reliability in the long term> seems like Seagte drives are gauranteed to fail within 2 years?

You're right it's impossible to get the foil back perfectly, what is the foil for anyway?

I've done three of these in the last four days, the last one I did had the least marking on the plastic where I had wedged in a small thin flat head screwdriver.

I now have a 320GB(from MBP 13), 500GB(From Mac Mini) and old 250GB from a white macbook went into the last enclosure.

They all work great and look fine the only unusual thing is the light on the case works at the start and then stops completely.

Pls elaborate. Or better yet post photos.

I just noticed that once an old drive is put back in it and sealed up and then then USB cable is connected to my MBP the light came on as normal and then stopped after a few seconds.

Drive still works fine though

.

I would strongly advise not using anything metal. I have done two using finger nails and credit card, and there are no marks on the plastic. I left the protective film in place until all was re-assembled.

Tempted to get one of these for my PS4 before people realise what's inside them and the price rockets.

£99.99 at Argos over here.

I tried just using fingernails but after much cursing and lack of patience I had to use small screwdriver to get the first opening and then did it by hand after that.

no marks at all on the last one I did.

Yes it is very good value! I bet the bare drive costs more!

There's been a few reports of these not working in PS4s if your unit originally shipped with a HTSG drive. If yours has a Samsung, then it'll probably be okay.

Checked mine, I have a HTSG - may try it anyway.

that's a pretty small logic board there!!

i seriously want one for my mbp! too bad i suspect it will take ages to become available in italy..
btw, has anyone found them on sale not as external drive?

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Backup-Portable-External-STDR2000100/dp/B00FRHTSK4

you could always check to see if Amazon USA will ship to Italy.

I read somewhere that the Samsung M8T won't be commercially available hence people are ripping them out of the Seagate External drive, still good value when you put the old drive back in and nothing goes to waste

2TB Seagate M9T installation in a MBP

Can you resubmit your pictures. The Dropbox link does not work. I'm in the process of cloning the M9T to my Toshiba 1.5TB in my MBP. I would like to get a better idea picture of the disassembled drive. The Toshiba is a 12.5mm high drive and fits nicely in the MBP. I did find one YouTube link showing the disassembling of a similar Seagate case for a 1TB drive...looks fairly easy.
