I call BS, at least if I'm reading it right. It seems to say that the new version will be 3.1 because Apple considers the current version 3.01. That's ridiculous. If Apple considered the current version 3.01, it would be numbered 3.01.

I'm guessing that's what he meant. He just didn't add the extra decimal.

Maybe Apple (or someone else) considers the GM 3.0 and the public 3.0.1, although i dont know why. And the next logical step would be 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 but who knows, maybe they'll jump to 3.1 with a bunch of bug fixes and maybe 1 or 2 new features. It'd be nice but I doubt it

    Apple Versioning: XX.X.X

    One- or two-digit major version
A one-digit minor version (although this has gone to two digits before i.e. 10.4.10)
    A one-digit "bug" (i.e. revision) version

I don't seen Apple going from 3.0 to 3.1 without some minor updates first (i.e. 3.0.1, 3.0.2, etc).

    This is ridiculous.

Apple can call updates whatever they want. If the 3GS was running anything but 3.0 it would say so in the settings.

    Well.... duh...

Do people really think Apple just stopped coding for the iPhone after they Gold Mastered 3.0? I am sure 3.0.1 was in early beta within a week of finalizing 3.0. For people that disagree and say they would not of released 3.0 until it was 100%, then heres a newsflash, software can't be 100% until it is in the masses and apple gets feedback. That's why apple asks you to send your diagnostic information to them.

Nothing to see here, just theiphoneblog trying to bring traffic though their website.

The ipsw file for 3.0 was last modified on the 28th of May.

3.0.1 is definitely in the works but it's not on any current phones and it's not been released to anyone.

The builds for 3.0 on the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3G S are all the same.... (7A341)

Yes, it is a fact that Apple has 3.1 in beta. Does this mean it is the next software release.... not by a long shot.

A short google search proves the point.
Beta 1 for 2.1 came out July, 24th

Beta 2 for 2.1 came out July 31st
    Source - http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1597
OS 2.0.1 came out August 4th

I would be shocked if Apple does not release a minor stability update before releasing OS 3.1. 3.0 is stable, as in most things run okay, but there are a few bugs that need to be address, like the icons switching.

Just so you know... 3.0 on the iPhone 3G is different than the 3.0 on the iPhone 3GS. I know this because they addressed one of the UI glitches on the 3GS, but it remains broken on the 3G.
