After updating my iPhone's software... I noticed this morning that I have "no service" instead of my normal 4-ish bars... I thought at first maybe there was a problem with at&t however my brother who has a non-iphone at&t cell phone has service. what should i do? just reboot the phone and hope for the best?

This is not normal at all. Definitely give it a soft reset (hold down power and home buttons until the Apple logo pops up). If that doesn't solve it, bring it to AT&T or Apple.

I know that when I log into my AT&T account this morning, I have the below message. I'm in the Houston area.

First make sure you actually didn't lose service in your area. It happens. After a reset or reboot, if that doesn't work, try a DFU restore.
