    This appears to be for the iPhone 3G S, not the previous models

    iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

    iPhone 1st Gen is: iPhone1,1
    iPhone 3G is iPhone1,2
    iPhone 3G S is (likely) iPhone 2,1

    I wouldn't install this on any previous device just knowing how they are named.

    Yes, do it. It installs more RAM, boosts the CPU, increase the megapixels, and installs the magnetometer.

    Someone has (forget who), iTunes just give you an error message saying the firmware is compatible, or something to that effect.

    you shouldn't have unzipped it. grab the zip archive. delete .zip from the name and it will turn into a ipsw file. Then option click update on your iPhone (in iTunes) and select the firmware bundle.

    It won't work though... you'll just get and error.

    :eek::p
    To make me look even worse, someone posted links to the correct firmwares (dev copies) and I accidentally snagged the 2G version. I have an iPhone 3G. Needless to say by the time I realized this that post had been deleted. Now I don't care enough to try again. I'll just wait until it shows as an update.
