I didn't see anything about a software upgrade on the live blog. Just looking for confirmation that there will be a software upgrade for the touch and if so when and how much?
If it wasn't in the live blog text, it was at least shown in the photos. Available at the same time as for the iPhone (the 17th?) and for $9.99
Yes, I know. I am deciding between buying an iPod touch this week and then downloading 3.0, or waiting a few weeks and buying the touch (I assume) with 3.0 pre-installed.
If having an iPod Touch for an extra few weeks is worth $9.99 to you, get it now. Only you know the answer to this inscrutible question.

No 2nd gen touch will have 3.0 preinstalled, just like no 1st gen touch had 2.0 preinstalled before the 2nd gen came out, so if you want it on there youll have to wait until the September iPod event.

The apple site did say that the new OS will be installed for ipod touch released after the update... i think..
yeh when you load itunes it may do an update search and spot the update it should then notify you and then take you to the purchase page..... iTunes shouldn't download the 3.0 without going through the purchase page..... though it did happen with 2.0 lol
I mean for new ipod touch(es) that you purchase, they will have 3.0 OS already installed. But for existing ones, I think you will have to pay for the upgrade..
They'll be preinstalled with 2.2.1 until the 3rd generation comes out. All they'll do is reduce the price of the iPod by $10, which will then go towards purchasing the upgrade. That's exactly what they did for the 1st gen touch when 2.0 was released, and I don't see why they'd change their tactic this time.
oooh u meant new 2nd gen's then no, maybe after a month or two then maybe yes but by then I would say you may aswell wait for 3rd gen
iPod touch Software Update
Coming 6/17 for every iPod touch.
- I guess I misinterpret it. I thought that it will be installed for all ipod touch purchased after 17th June.
Whatever the case, I think I am gonna wait for the third gen.. Sad that I lost my 2nd Gen, that's why I am kindda considering purchasing a refurb now. But looking at iphone 3g s new features, I am really keen on the compass feature! Hope that it will be available for ipod touch too ^^
