I recently purchased an Apple store refurb 2019 27" iMac, all seemed well so I added 32GB of Crucial RAM for a total of 40GB. A couple of weeks after the memory upgrade I am getting 3 beeps when I wake the iMac from sleep, no other indications of a problem, just the 3 loud quick beeps on wake but not on boot. I think this has something to do with a RAM problem but system report and activity monitor both show 40GB and no problems.

I also restarted into Apple Diagnostics which ran for a couple of minutes and reported "no issues".

Thanks for any advice. Screen Shot 2019-11-16 at 9.25.28 AM.png

Three beeps "at boot" is a RAM problem. He's not getting that. He's reporting three beeps when he wakes the machine. I think it's something different. I bet a running app is doing the beeping and is nothing to worry about. OP, if you don't mind, record a short audio or video of the beeps and post it.

Sorry for the slow reply, the three beeps do not occur on every wake, but they occur on wake only, took awhile to capture it.

I didn't know that apps could control the beeping, but that seems like a real possibility with the amount of cruft that came over when I migrated from El Capitan to Mojave. I need to do a clean install to Catalina soon.

I recorded the three beeps on wake but not able to attach an mp3 or wma file to this post. I will add a Dropbox link later. https://www.dropbox.com/s/riox6zzyxsmie0i/VN520146-[AudioTrimmer.com].mp3?dl=0

I also have a refurb 2019 27" with the same setup (2 additional 16GB Crucial modules). I haven't had that issue. I did do a clean install of the Catalina though. You might want to try some "swaptronics" and see what you get. ie does it happen with just the 2 4s installed? Does it happen with JUST the 2 16 installed? How about just one installed? What if you swap slots (putting the 16s in 0/2 and the 4s in 1/3? etc.

1. Take the memory you added OUT of the iMac.
2. Run that way for 5-7 days
3. Are you still getting "the beeps"...?
