3 day old iPhone 3GS already cracking

The genius I talked to says that the 3GS has a metal plate behind the plastic so if it cracks it will cause no structural damage.

Can someone confirm this?

i too have noticed cracks on my white 3GS now, a noticeable one by the connector jack and several other small hairline cracks by the screws. here's my issue with it, i am sure apple will replace it with a new 32GB 3GS BUT i don't think i want a new one. the reason being, the new batches of iphones have the new bootrom which prevents us from doing a untethered jailbreak on them (meaning i wud have to run blackrain everytime i reboot my iphone). the one i have was bought in august/09 and has no issues. so unless there is a untethered jailbreak available for these new iphones i dont know if i will be making that trip to the apple store. wat do u guys think about this ?

i just hope apple gets their **** together and uses better or different materials for the next gen.
