I'd say that's a pretty HUGE thanks you. And that's JUST on the number of phones they've sold NOW! They're giving out free cases through September. That number could go well over the $180 Million mark. Especially with launches in over 30 more countries!

Apple went way above and beyond here. I do give them kudos to how they handled the situation. For those of you that don't. Take your phone back to Apple for a full refund and get something else. It's fairly simple here.

your forgetting the fact that it only costs apple like $.10 to actually produce the case, so its $300k, not $90M

actual cost to manufacture the bumper is probably less than $2?

so 3million iphones X $2 = only $6 million.

so.. that's the easiest way out for this mess..

A bumper is sold at retail at 30 dollars, that doesnt mean it costs 30 dollars to make. At most the actual bumper costs 1 dollar to manafactuer, and through shipping and sellers each bumper will cost them about 3-5 dollars.

4* 3million

lol, yes it cost apple $30 to manufacture those cases, they make no profit on them at all.. lol

son are you this dumb????? It cost maybe $1 to make....plus less than 20% of all people would buy that piece if rubber any way lol

Yeah bumpers could cost more than $3 with the packaging.
Shipping probably costs more than the actual bumper.

yea they have to cost less then $1 to make. and not everyone would buy one if they were free so they're not loosing revenue from every iPhone sale towards a bumper.

This is nothing for them, especially considering the cost of a recall.

They have 40 Billion dollars sitting around. This is a drop in the bucket. lol

3 Million Phones * $30/case = $90 Million

More like

3 Million Phones * $0.1 manufacturing costs = $300,000

I think you're all idiots, too. They're throwing away a potential of $90M, which was obvious, and didn't require you to be dumbasses.

Nope. Folks wouldn't have bought cases if there wasn't a problem to begin with!

Apple's 'free cases' will help them offset any drop in demand for the phone.

No money lost here...

I'm not talking about the manufacturing costs, of course that's less....they have to REFUND the ACTUAL cost to people who've already bought cases. Yes, the full 30 + tax.

Future giveaways will only cost them the manufacturing cost. Either way, it's LOST revenue to Apple to the tune of what they WERE selling them for minus the manufacturing cost. HUGE!

they sold a bumper, refund a bumper, total cost to them is the cost of bumper.

basically they are refunding the money that they received

Don't forget they already reported revenue on the 7 days of case sales in Q2 '10.

Completely insignificant, materiality-wise from their auditor's perspective I'm sure, but a little irritating.

You would have to be utterly ignorant to think that this costs Apple 90 million dollars! LMAO :D

Seriously, go out and get an education some of you!

Sure it doesn't cost apple $90 million to manufacture the case, but, that is lost revenue. If everyone was to purchase a bumper at the $30 price, then Apple would gain $90 million rather than lose 3-6 million by giving this away for free or refunding. But I'm probably wrong, so I should go get an education.

I don't think there are 3,000,000 bumpers out there....

Yes, but in that case you're saying that 3 Million people got bumpers to begin which is not true. Way less.

Either way I agree. Lost revenue, just a way smaller figure than what you listed.
