3 or 4-year-old MBP's logic board failed - common? repair or buy new?

had same year same model as you
logic board died
they realized it was due to the 8600GT

gave me a new logic board + keyboard + LCD free of charge.

This was 5 months ago. The logic board had killed the LCD and the keyboard as well.... i paid NOTHING out of pocket

What process of repair did you go through? Your story and formerglory's gives me hope they will see it's the chip's fault the logic board failed and this will wind up being free for me.

I figured I would offer a conclusion to my own story on this matter... I picked up my MBP and it had been repaired with the logic board replaced and I wasn't charged. The repair paper stated the logic board was replaced and the symptom was listed as "NVIDIA Video Issue" -- so I assume that meant they had decided the board was covered due to the NVIDIA being covered.

Hope this helps anyone in a similar predicament
