this might depend on your demand and use case scenario.
Both devices will show date and time, both will show messages/alarms, both will track activity, both will show weather conditions....

For me, i love grown display real estate, the always on display, the faster processor and the ability to connect to 5GHz wifi. But i guess this depends on your usage scenario ;)

I was about to post a similar thread. Pardon me if I chime in as I have a AW3 and wanted so badly to love it. It had cute faces, and is aluminum, with cell capability. I paid ATT for an extra "line", but prior to buying didn't realize how much the AW relies on being tethered to my iPhone, which is HUGE. I wanted to have that Dick Tracy fantasy solution. It was, sort of, but as I have read in my more recent research (through various threads) the Bluetooth headphones, GPS tracking while you are doing your activity (my case walking or riding bike, some swimming) can burn the battery out quickly. I am very slow, walk about 3 MPH, ride my bike maybe 10 MPH, so if I want to do a 20 mile ride, with stops, and listen to tunes, I worry the thing will die on me and I'll "lose" that workout if I'm using RideGPS or Strata. I have had 'it' die on long walk/jobs (I used to do 22 miles every third Sunday once). So, is the 6 battery life any 'better' in these scenarios? Is the software any different than what I can put on my 3? (I am recharging my 3, which has sat idle for two years, to see if an update will recharge my enthusiasm for the AW in general).

I know the never watches have is it EEG? Cardio monitoring now. I did go to Apple's site to compare, but the linear features lists don't really speak to me, which may be the OP's problem, as it is mine too!

I'd throw money at the problem, if the 3 model bump would make my life 'better'. Doing long slow walks and rides for hours on end listing to music and not having to carry my iPhone 12 MAX is what I'd see as an improvement. Maybe someone can also paste in favorite threads where features and APPS that make best use of the devise for those of us who may not have used the system for years would be nice too? Sorry to hijack. Just curious myself :)

I upgraded from 3 to 6 and I don’t regret it. My series 3 did everything I needed, but it had started to grow slow. For example, every night I would go to activate my morning alarm the watch would lag and it wouldn’t activate it after the first click. I would click again and then it would activate and immediately deactivate it due to the lag. Or if I wanted to start a timer for one hour, I needed to scroll down to find the 1-hour option, but instead of scrolling down the list of alarms it would activate the 3 or 5min alarm. Siri wouldn’t activate with “hey Siri”. 9/10 times. When someone was calling me and I wanted to answer using the phone, it was getting stuck and it would show “connecting”. I wasn’t able to hear or be heard and the other person would hang up.

Even though the basic functionality was there (sleep tracking, workout tracking, notifications, hour, etc.) all the things I mentioned above were very annoying and now they are gone, so I don’t regret upgrading. The bigger screen is also a bonus, as well as the always on display and the ECG. The battery lasts the same as the series 3, which was up to now the best in terms of battery (better than the 4 and 5).

I can’t imaging struggling to do basic things with the series 3 for another year, so in my opinion it is worth it. If your watch doesn’t lag or you don’t use it the way I do and it doesn’t bother you, then you could consider waiting for the series 7.

I went from 3 to SE and that was worth it. Going to a 6 would have even more new features. You don’t say if you have the cellular version, but if not then upgrading from 8GB storage to 32GB alone is worth it. The higher res screen starting with the 4 is better and if you want the always on screen (I didn’t) you have that, too. I never had speed issues with the 3 but the newer watches are noticeably faster.

S4 is where the screen size increased 30% if I remember correctly. That alone would be worth it to me. Many people would disagree but I personally would never buy another watch without an always on display now that I have one.

I went from 3 to 6 in December, totally worth it. The bigger screen and AOD in particular are very much appreciated. It’s also nice that the 6 has enough storage that OS updates “just work“ as opposed to my 3 which never had enough space to update even though the only thing on it was Cyclemeter.

I'll post my similar opinions as others on the thread. I went through the same decision with a Series 3 to Series 5. Sprint was having a half off sale on the 5's so it seemed like about the best deal I was ever going to get (I already was paying them for cell service for the watch, so no additional out of pocket), but I was happy with the 3.

Ultimately I did upgrade & am glad that I did. The increased screen size is pretty noticeable & the watch is faster at everything. The big selling point for me was that the 5 had a redesigned ceramic back that worked better on cellular allowing for better connectivity (I live in a fringe area & would frequently lose connection on my runs).

Overall, I am glad that I made the switch. The larger screen is useful and the better cellular connectivity is also. I don't ever use the AOD, so for me that was a wash. The 6 is an even nicer watch, so the upgrade was worth it for me, but again, if you are happy with your Series 3, I don't see any reason to rush an upgrade, that is still a solid watch.

I've got plenty of room on my AW3 to update, started the process this morning after posting on this thread, and must say it is going on 3pm and this software or iPhone/AW3 updating process is still "updating"! Can't take the phone or it'll stop hours and hours of supposed effort. Is the 6 or SE any better??

Have you considered getting a used Series 4 or Series 5? They offer most of the upgrades that you get with the Series 6, but at a much lower price.

BestBuy has the s5 stainless steel 44mm model on sale right now for $449, which is $300 off. It's a great deal if you're looking for an upgrade. I snagged one yesterday, it will be here Wednesday. I have an s6 aluminum, but also wanted a SS model, and this was too good of a deal to pass up.

I have the Series 1 and am also waiting on the 7. The 1 works, well, OK. There are delays but it works and is rock solid for me. The battery holds for the day. Series 1, I just can't quit you!
