That's what is wrong. With a 16:9 display a 2560 only gives you 1440 vertical. The new Apple 27" is 2560x1440. No thanks!

Just image a 4096×2560 (maximum displayport resolution) display with a pixel pitch we have today and what is reasonable (100 to 130dpi, everything higher wouldn't work out on a OS that doesn't have resolution independence). That thing would be way too huge to work with (vertically). Just tilt your 30" to portrait mode. That's not comfortable any more, at least not for me.

But a 4096 x 2000ish display with a slightly higher pixel pitch than the current 30" screens have would be awesome.
