Apple Cinema Display 30” had no internal scaler. It would either operate in 1200x800 for single link DVi mode or 2560x1600 with a dual link dvi adapter.

This means you would need one of these active dual link dvi to mini display ports active adapter (takes 5v from usb):

This is the one I use

Note: Apple Dual link DVI was reported to go bad after a while or otherwise unreliable (at least I remembered as such)

Then you use this in conjunction to a USB-c to mini display port adapter.

Try this :

StarTech.com Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter - USB Powered - Dual Link Connectivity - Black - DVI Active Display Converter (MDP2DVID2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PSW9KYT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JY82VYBD78W6PVNTQB6G

Or just google “minidisplayport to dual link dvi”

From the detail of your adapter it seems that it is usb-c to dual link dvi. I don’t know why it wouldn’t work in this case (unless they lied in the product page)

Silly questikn, There is no option to change the resolution beyond 1200x800, right?

hey... so i have a 30" apple cinema that i've been using no prob with my '15 macbook air. now i need to connect it to a '19 macbook pro.

i was recommended the following: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085HH1LQW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

however i can't seem to get the resolution to work properly. everything's huge and super pixilated. i can't imagine this is the expected result...
please help? :)
Is it connected directly to the Mac Book Pro?

Did you hold the Option key down and click the "Scaled" radio button in the Displays preferences panel to get a list of resolutions?

Try SwitchResX?

Both parts of that adapter must be plugged into your MacBook Pro. Using a USB-C to MiniDisplay Port adapter should work with that adapter. And yes that is the correct adapter for running a 30" Cinema Display via Mini Display Port.

I wonder how it's possible to break a digital signal like that...
i thought it was my monitor. i have another one, which doesn't have this, instead lines that aren't moving for a while burn into the screen. they fade later, but it's still quite annoying...

By "another one", do you mean display or adapter? How is it connected? What is it connected to? Lines burning into the screen is a problem with the display, not the adapter.

I guess all these adapters are made by the same manufacturer - they have the same appearance so they probably use the same chips and have the same problem. Maybe the Apple adapter doesn't have the static problem?

another display. i use the same adapter for it, but no static issue... so yea, i guess it could be the adapter. i should swap them when i have a chance(my second monitor is in europe) :)
