Telefonica announced that they had received 300,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 3G in the UK and Spain.

Telefonica has allowed customers to reserve units on their website and will expand their iPhone sales into Spain, the Czech Republic and twelve Latin American countries on July 11th.

Telefonica has sold the original iPhone in the UK and Ireland under the O2 brand.

10 million

Looks like 10 million for calendar year 2008 is going to be far, far surpassed. My guess is maybe closer to 14 million. All depends on how many Apple's contract manufacturers can pump out. No doubt they are churning them out right now by the second. Ahhhh, one of them shall be mine. :)

This will likely happen in the US alone. I imagine 25-30M worldwide by end of 2008, and four times that by end of 2009.

I can't find any article on Telefonica's site that states that they will start selling the iPhone on Latin America on July 11th. As a matter of fact, it is supposed to arrive to Chile around September.

I wouldn't go that far.

15M by the end of 2008, 30M by the end of 2009.

What this release is the vertical part of the S-curve. I would expect the 2009 model iPhone to do slightly better in terms of units sold per month but this will probably be the biggest jump - mostly due to 3G and the number of countries its being released into.

Uhh, thats a little optimistic, don't you think? (100 million by next year?!?)

They have sold around 6 million sold so far (in a 1 year time period) I don't think they are going to sell another 20 million in 6 months.... They will, however, hit the 10 million mark. My guess would be around 14 million worldwide by the end of 2008, and 25 million by end of 2009

To say iPhone will outsell iPod is a tough one to say...Your locked into one carrier's plan, and not many are gonna opt out of theirs just to get iPhone.

If it was unlocked, we'd be talking some really really really REALLY big numbers.

yeah the previous iphone did so well outside of the states..

as far as I know, you can't pre order it in spain. you can only sign in here and wait for them to contact you.

you can - my mate walked into the movistar shop here (in ibiza) the other day and signed up - the woman said it would be free and that it would be circa 25euros a month contract

This article is incorrect. MacRumours should really check this sort of thing out before posting. You can just register your interest for the iPhone in Spain (have done so myself) there is no option to reserve a phone, and how could there be? - nobody knows what the actual cost or rate plans will be yet.

Sloppy journalism. The site that MacRumors links to doesnt link its source either.

Yeah, I agree. I think that estimate is off by a factor of 5. Remember, not everyone wants a big smart phone or wants to pay the high data plan rates...
