So the non-touchbar one basically comes down to me asking myself, does the smaller form factor and coolness of the space gray, justify spending the extra $550 or so after I unload my 2013.

Haha yeah basically. Don't forget dongles those can add up in price.

Oh and you're also getting a sweet trackpad. That to me is a big improvement. I had no problem with palm rejection like some.

Good call on the dongles. Likely going to be another $50 or so. Probably should just spend some money on a JetDrive to boost my current storage and call it a day.

That's not a bad idea. Heck a jet drive seems less to carry than a bunch of dongles.

Btw I'm not trying to talk you out of it man like I said I love my new MBP but the best way I can put it is that if I woke up this morning and went to Expedia.com to book a vacation instead of the store to buy this computer, I wouldn't miss it using my 2013.

The biggest single difference I see is when working in bright areas, areas lit by sunlight or when outside - the new screen has what I consider to be a dramatic edge here, both in brightness and glare reduction. Depending how someone uses their computer, this might or might not be a huge benefit.

I know when I played with it at Best Buy, it seemed brighter than my screen. I pulled my computer out to compare

Do you think 8GB will be able to stay up in three years?

5 years ago I would say no, but the processors and RAM usage needs have decreased sharply in the last 5 years. There really isn't groundbreaking technology on the way. Intel seems to be focusing on efficiency gains and not raw power. Kind of hit a wall in that regards. If I got 8gb today, I'd be fully confident the computer would be serviceable for the next 5 years. The old conventional wisdom does not really apply the way it used to.

Not to belabor this point, but I'd be more concerned about usb-c peripherals. Not that usb-a peripherals won't be available, but you'd be shut out of the good stuff in the next 5 years.

Agree with @Sanpete, I'd go with the 8gb TB. Ports on 2 sides being the sleeper killer feature of the TB model that I never considered at time of purchase. Another point about 8gb over 16gb is that it will theoretically use less battery power. Whether it's significant or not is another debate I don't care to get into.

Going to head to the Apple Store and okay with them one more time today.
