Hello could anybody help me. checking my specs for 27" iMac 2011 I should have a 450MBPS TX rate but only getting 300mbps does anybody know why?

I don't know. Some possibilities include: router limitations (which one do you have?), microwave or other electronic interference (can you get everyone on your block to turn all their stuff off so you can test?), interference from other wifi networks (same as second one).

Its not the router I have a MacBook Pro sitting next to the iMac. The MacBook pro was getting 450MBPS sitting right next to it. I though maybe some thing in the iMacs setting. or possible a dogey antenna inside do wifi cards slow down? or possible was there a cheaper option at purchase for a slower wifi card?

Everymac.com states: "AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR standard. Although Apple formally makes no mention of it, as discovered by users, this model unofficially supports 450 Mbit/sec 802.11n Wi-Fi using MIMO."

I guess you'd have to ask one of those "users" how they get the speed.

I can't say about my iMac as the ethernet won't reach but connecting my MacBook direct via ethernet I was getting around 138mbps actual from ookla speed test. when I do the same speed test on iMac I get 50.89mbs I just got 56.7 from MacBook using wifi so not a Lot in it it appears

As a network installer for small business and non-profits, I always used ethernet, not wireless. Speed on ethernet is the same end to end, up to 300'. WiFi speeds will drop off as the distance increases between devices. I know WiFi has improved over the years, but nothing beats a piece of wire (except fiber) for speed, performance and security.

To get 450Mbps, you need 3 antennas, on both ends (computer and access point/router):

Check the MCS index in your wifi status, it must be at least 16.
Mine is on 15, because it connects to airport express and that one has only 2 MIMO antennas (i.e. max 2 spatial streams).
As MBP gets full 450, the problem must be in iMac.

Just checked the MacBook Pro has MCS index of:23, the iMac has MCS index of 15. So my question would be it looks as if my wifi card is only operation 2 MIMO antennas should I have 3 on a 2011 iMac ? is there a possiblitltiy one is not working or simply not there. Is any way of telling with out taking the iMac apart
