Can't really comment on which is better all I can say is that I have just bought a 30" ACD and absolutely love it. Not 1 single dead pixel, built like a tank, beautifully even backlight, don't regret the purchase for a second.

...now if only the matching Mac Pro would show up (ETA 16-06-2009 :() then I'd be set ;)

The 30" ACD is a great display. I don't think anyone is disputing that, and if you got a good deal from somewhere, that's even better. What I would say is that out-of-the box, the Dell 3008WFP doesn't appear very good, but setting up the .icc profile and calibrating with a good calibrator, will yield excellent results. The Dell is a wide color gamut S-IPS panel and dare I say, it may be better than the current 30" ACD. It has many types on inputs and a card reader. Aesthetically, it's also very pleasing to look at. Finally, with some smart shopping you can pick one up new for a few hundred less than the 30" ACD and it comes standard with a 3-yr warranty.

I'm getting a 30 ACD under $1000 that is less than a year old w/Apple warranty by Tuesday.

It's got firewire. It's not a glossy glass screen. It's got over two years of warranty. There was an update to the ACDs in 2006 I believe -- 400 to 700 contrast ratio or something.

I could care less about the iSight or speakers built in, should Apple update this week. I use firewire and I don't like the glossy glass.

Just a tip...Costco dot com stocks the 3007WFP-HC for $999 + shipping and tax but they're return policy let's you bring it back and get ALL your money back including shipping and tax if it fails or you're unhappy with it.

BTW, they stock the Hanns-G HG281-DPB (27.5" viewable) which is no where near as good as the dell 30" but on sale for the crazy price of $299. Unless you're doing color intensive work the fact that you can buy 3 of these for the price of the dell is nuts. IMHO, this monitor is tops if you're just looking for a decent display with loads of screen real estate.

The Dell 3008WFP panel is an IPS panel made by LG. Aesthetically it is also pleasing, provided you don't stare at the Dell logo on the bottom bezel, and calibrates beautifully.

30" ACD = 150 W
30" Dell 3008WFP = 163 W

As you can see, both use a fair amount of power, so in both cases, it would be wise to calibrate the monitors if you want maximum lifetime.

Does anyone know how warm the 30" ACD gets and how well it dissipates heat?
