I wish Apple would embrace Micro SD but they won't I just added 32gb to my Asus Transformer Prime for $34

One of Each

We have a Gen 1 iPad 64GB and an iPad 2 32GB. Like a few of the posters have commented on, it depends on your use. Both of ours have movies on them, about 7-10GB of apps, and 5-8 GB of music.

When the iPad 3 comes out I'll get another 32GB version. I've also recently got a seagate GoFlex satellite drive that acts like a wifi hub. In reality is a 500GB drive that I can store just about anything I want on and stream it up to 3 different iDevices so that capacity isn't as big an issue. The satellite drive was just over $100.

I have a 16GB but ran out of space just a few months after getting it. Most of what eats my space are Apps, particularly large game apps (Aralon, Back to the Future, The Bard's Tale, a bunch of Gameloft games, etc.). I have no music, no movies, or TV shows on it. Just apps, books, magazines, and some photos.

I plan on upgrading to the iPad 3 and a 32GB. For sure I am getting no less than 32GB at the very least. But even then, I'm still not confident 32GB will be enough. If the iPad 3 does indeed get a retina display, I'd imagine game developers will update their games to support the higher resolution, resulting in even larger apps.

I don't know...I'm in the middle of between 32GB and 64GB as of right now and not sure where to lean to...

16 is well enough for me. I don't use mine to hold media though as I have my iphone and macbook for that. I use my ipad more for the occassional game, ebooks, browsing, and streaming abilities than a storage device

I went for the 32gb when I bought my iPad 1. I have over 16gb of music so it seemed like the best choice. I've found that when I want to listen to music I either us my iPhone, or my Mac Mini when at home. When I upgrade I am going to go with the lowest capacity and spend the extra money to get a 3(or4)G iPad 3.

I guess it really depends on how you plan to use it. Either way you will be very happy with your new toy. :)

All the time thats why I bought a 500gb Seagate Goflex Satellite. Now I have a 564gb iPad2 and 532gb iPhone 4S :D

I bought a 64Gb iPad 1, because they were going cheap when the iPad 2 came out. I don't use anywhere near that much storage. My music is on my 64Gb iPhone (5Gb free), I prefer to use my 11" Air to watch films on the train, because it stands up better, takes up barely more space, and is more useful in almost every way. Pretty much the only thing I use my iPad for is reading magazines, which really don't take up much space. I'll probably still get an iPad 3, if they have a retina display, but I'll get the minimum storage.

I am waiting to get an iPad, just waiting to see what there is in the 3 that might be worth spending the additional £100 or so it, or waiting to see the 2 drop in price.

I will be mainly using it for research (Sente, Dropbox, Evernote, Pages), note taking (Evernote, Ghostwriter Notes) with minimal multimedia use.

At the moment I can't see the need for the 64Gb version for me, but more memory/storage is never a bad thing, especially when it isn't user upgradeable.

How many people get close to maxing out the 32Gb version and therefore could do with a 64Gb, and if so, how?

Regards and thanks

Gareth

For your usage a 32gb seems fine, however imagine longterm you would become a movie-junkie but wouldn't have enough space to live your dream than a 64gb is better..., so for the feeling of long term investment security i would get a 64gb.

I Agree. You need to consider current and potential long-term needs, if you would like to use your ipad beyond 1 generation of upgrades. My ipad1 was fine with 16 GB when i bought it. Now, it is nearly filled up with ebooks, PDFs, photos, apps, and a few music tracks. Not too mention that iOS5 doesn't exactly run without a hitch on my filled ipad either. When I buy the ipad 3 I will get a maximum or near-maximum storage version. It's too bad Apple isn'tblikely to offer an SD card slot on an iPad and that cloud computing doesn't exactly solve all file storage needs.

Based on what you said above, even the 16gb would be sufficient. 32gb would be "just in case" and 64gb would be "too much".

Most apps are tiny in size, averaging between 5 to 20MB. Multimedia and large apps (mostly games) take up the most amount of space.

Thanks.

For lots of media and movie watching, I have my 13" MBP, or at least can use it to store movies/media to transfer across when required.

Now to wait for the official announcements :)

Regards

I have a 64GB....It's about two thirds full. Just my music library would have killed a 16....If the 3 is upgraded storage wise to 128, I'd go for it....Might not fill it, but there's nothing worse than worrying about how much space you have left.

As posted, it just depends on what you plan on using your iPad for...I have friends who are perfectly happy with the 16GB model.
128 GB of MUSIC? You have to be kidding, right?
It's IMPOSSIBLE to listen to that much music in non compressed format on your way to work etc. You don't need that much memory for music, unless your transferring files to your home studio to a studio (24 bit/96k) and I just bring my 2 TB drive for that he he.
Apple should just add a USB port and be done with it if your going to go there, and keep the cost down for users who just sync up a new playlist everyday instead of archiving to an ipad their entire discographies.
8GB is fine for my uses, anything else is just dead weight, you don't access all the time... unless your one of those people who are literally no life glued to the thing types.

And your the ONE in 500 users who fill it up. Not enough of a demand for that and you got what you needed.:D

I've a 32GB, and it suffices for my usage, with around 9GB of songs and another 9GB worth of videos. If you choose to buy the 64GB model, it'll last you through the next iPad update. AND, if you've lots of media files to store, like videos as other posters have mentioned.

I'm going to get the 16GB version of the iPad 3 because I'll primarily use it for reading PDF documents so I doubt I'll get anywhere near the 16GB limit and even if I do I'll be able to remove PDF documents that I hardily ever read.

I purchased the iPad 64GB on launch day as that was the only one available at Best Buy.

For reasons that now escape me, I also purchased an iPad2 on launch day but thought I was fortunate enough as I could then purchase the 16GB.

Fast forward a few months and it now occurs to me it is the original iPad with its 64GB of memory that I use 90% of the time (especially when traveling).

When is Apple going to add a micro-sd slot? Would make life easier for all.

Never. Apple doesn't do that kind of thing! There were reports a while back that they were looking to ditch the SIM card slot!
