I’m still stuck on which size to get. Reading that you can’t download 4k movies, I’m not sure 64GB is really needed. I have no interest in games and using the Siri remote to play them. That’s what xox and PS4 are for.

I have at least 50 apps loaded on mine. I use Directv Now, Playstation Vue, inFuse, a handful of games and the rest are TV Anywhere apps. I'm nowhere close to using my 32GB.

I'm really not sure how else I could max it out.

How did you check exactly how much storage you are using. I am using Storage Doctor TV.

I have 128 Apps. The game Rayman Adventures is the largest with 543mb.

I have a number of games for my GrandKids. I also have a lot of the TV Network Apps that I hardly use. I could delete them but that might not free up a lot since they are not very large.

Of course i have everything (pretty much) in folders.

The Apple TV 32 vs 64 reminds me of this place at the mall. If you buy the chicken meal for about $5 bucks you get a full plate of food but for a $1 more, they will double it.

Who knows what the future holds
GTA 3,vice and San Andreas might come to Apple TV
Along with more better “non mobile games “

Think about it what comes next after adding 4k and 3gb ram
Apple will not update this 4k ATV for a few more years
Maybe 3 years
Go for the 64gb

My thinking as well, better to have the space if Apple drops an update that 64GB will be the better choice. The hardware is certainly capable of much more than current feature set. And it’s only $20.

Well... I may not have a choice in the matter after all because it looks like no stores around me have the 64GB version. That may change, but I’d really like to pick one up today as opposed to waiting.

TV OS apps are limited to 4GB. No game coming will affect the storage space. 64GB really is overkill for this device.

My local Apple Store just updated their inventory. I’ll pick-up my 64 GB model later today.

32GB is plenty of storage space in my use. I think 64GB is overkill, and unless you download a ton of apps, most of that space will be dedicated to caching content that you watch.

I've had a 32 GB Apple TV 4 for a couple years now, and it's been just a streamer for me. I've tried apps, and a couple games just to give them a fair chance, and just found it's not worth it for me on that platform.

I went with a 32 GB 4k apple TV which I got yesterday, and giving that a try on the 4K setup. So far it's been fine. Most of my storage is on the Mac, or in the cloud. I typically use inFuse 5 pro to stream content because most of my content is blu-ray or DVDs ripped to MKV, so they have the lossless audio tracks, which infuse deals with quite nicely. Plus, depending on the content, I lean toward DTS audio sounding better then Dolby, but I find that today , that really makes a bigger difference on DVDs, or poorly mastered audio. The HD audio tracks, are much closer in quality.

Hi

We are ordering the new ATV. We have never had an ATV or any other streaming device. I'm not even sure what the memory is used for. Since I will preorder, what is best? Our TV is ancient. 720P and 1080i.

Thanks
Get 64 gb since the price difference is not much, $20 with value of double storage. The extra storage will give you piece of mind especially when you plan to keep it for a while, which will free you from being worried of out of spaces when some events require you to use a lot of space in it.

Just a guess, but they've probably had their ATV for months at this point.

Just thought I would ask, I was originally going to get a 64 GB 4K model, but it wasn't in stock. I've had a 32 4th generation for a couple years, and have never run out of space. All I use it for is streaming, no games or major apps. I still have time to return or exchange the 32 GB I have, but since there is no guarantee a 64 GB will be in stock any time soon is it worth worrying about at this point? I don't plan on doing anything different with the new one that I already do with my exiting 4th Generation. I mainly got it to take advantage of 4k compatibility, and to see if it would fix some issues I was having with a ROKU Premiere+ streaming player.

From what I read, and from my experience with my other ATV, the new one isn't going to magically need more space then what I already have been doing.

If you've already got it, I wouldn’t waste my time. I only bought the 64 GB because it was only a $20 difference. Sounds like you might be waiting for awhile and have to go through the hassle of a return too.

Well, I could return this one to Walmart, and try Best Buy. Walmart is easier to get to because I don't need a ride, I can just walk. Either way, it sounds like based on what I do, and the fact I couldn't get the 64 GB first time around I would just be wasting time and money for something I don't need in my case. The only game I might play would be Transistor, and I have that on the 27" 5k iMac. The only apps I use beyond streaming apps is a couple weather apps and the Speedtest app. If I watch podcasts, I don't sync, and I have it set to delete played episodes automatically. Anyway, thanks again.

Good video.

When ATV came out (the new one), I got the 64GB like a fool. I did that ONCE. Every other one I have purchased since, even the 4K I have, is 32GB. I don't even intend to use all that storage. It's a streaming box. Not a storage box. I would love to know anyone who has maxed out a 32B ATV.

What's interesting is the mindset of "only $20 dollars more". I was that way as well. That's what they're banking on. Imagine 20 x 1 million. Do that math and you can see how it all adds up. :)

I ended up going with the 64 GB over the 32 GB and here is why. While I know that on an average day to day use. I won't need the space. I do want to think a little forward though in case there are apps that might come along that I want to use. The other reason is, I ended up getting it cheaper then the 32 GB so from that prospective I thought it was a better deal.

I paid about $190 for the 32 GB from Walmart. I had a Best Buy store credit left from an exchange I did last year with around $50 on it. Without using that store credit the 64 GB was going to cost $212 about, and with the credit I applied I got the 4k Apple TV for $162, so it was either pay 140 for another 32 G and save money, or still save money and pay less then full price 32 GB and get double the storage. I think I ended up with the better deal.

Plus, the 32 GB I had gotten from walmart always seemed a little glitchy, this one seems better. I think it was a good time to do this so I'm still in the return window of the 32 GB to get the money back from that one.

Question, that I didn't think about when I first came to the thread a couple weeks back.

Does the 64 vs 32 GB make a difference when collecting Podcasts? Apparently, when you subscribe the episodes are downloaded, then deleted once played, or you can choose to keep them. If this is true, it seems like the 64 GB 4k ATV would be a better device to store podcasts on for TV watching then the 4th generation 32 GB, as it has more space to keep more. Just thought I would come back and ask because i totally forgot about that when I was here the first time. that I like watching / listening to podcasts.

If you run Apps that use cache storage (MrMC/Infuse) the 64GB model is best as the AppleTV 4/4K will purge storage space if there is less than 2BGs left.

I use both apps. By the way, while this isn't the exact thread for this, do you know how to get MRMC to connect to SMB, or SFTP, it seems to refuse both, while InFuse works fine. The only way I can get MrMC to share anything is via one of my DLNA Servers, either Plex, or Serviio, very frustration, but it's been too long to ask for my money back for the app at this point.

Which version of smb is your server running ? smb1, smb2 or smb3 ? Did you try switching to libdsm (in smb client settigns) ? We are working on bringing in a new smb lib.
