In that one place
I've read confusing reports as to whether or not 32GB of ram is usable in a 2012 cMPB. Most information I can find are from people telling other people they were crazy in 2012 for wanting such an amount of ram. Fast forward to the present and 32GB isn't unreasonable at all. Kits float around on ebay all the time, but I have no idea if they'd work in my machine. Would it work?

Here is a listing of the Max Ram possible on all the macbook pro models:
https://everymac.com/actual-maximum-mac-ram/actual-maximum-macbook-pro-ram-capacity.html

Edit: Glancing at the list, there is no MacBook pro that can use more than 16gb of ram, at the present time of this post.

While the CPU can support it and the machine can physically take it, the firmware does not support it.

- The CPU can support 32 GB, but at a maximum of 8 GB per module. And since there are only two slots, 16 GB is the maximum.

Correct. I think that's the part that confuses some people
"Intel says the CPU supports 32 GB!"
"Did you read past that?"
"No, what does it say?"
"8GB per slot, the computer only has 2 slots"
"oh"

The firmware or microcode of the CPU does not support it. However, it may be possible for Intell or Apple to release an update to do so. But seeing as these machines are over five years old, they likely won't.
