Right back where I started...
September Challenges are set! Good running in August. We need more folks! The list gets bigger each month, but the runners are less. Make it a September to remember.

For August - Guess what? :eek:Twood won again...congrats.:)

The 1 mile, 5k and 10k are set for best time by end of October.

THe 50 miles in 2 months seemed to help some folks so I made a new 60 miles in 2 months for those with a need for a smaller goal. I have to be in but I will remove folks at my discretion

These following challenges are still open to anyone:
100 miles by end of 2007
250 miles by end of 2007
500 miles by end of 2007

Any ideas for additional motivation let me know.

As always if anyone is interested in joining up to any challenge please put it in the thread or PM me with what you would like to join and your nike+ id. I try to carry over all the id's from one month to the next - if one drops out here or there it was not intentional - typo's happen.

See everyone out there running.

I am trying to generate a team challenge that we as a group would need to meet - for 2008 and even subsets - Ideas welcome.

THIS IS SOO COOL!!! i dn't have a Nike+ however. I am on my local High School Cross Country (i am varsity). This summer i ran 524 miles to be exact. ;). Anyway...c'mon people...start running!!!

Arg...you made be realize I need to start running more....soon as it hits 12 on sept first, I'm going running.

Darn MR, making me not be lazy!!

Well I went an ran for a whole .67M....well I'm out of shape!

My plan is to do 3M per day, most likely 1M before school, 2 after...seems doable.

ok, I think I'm finally going to play along and start participating. I've got my sensor working and my account set up at nike.com and they're all playing nice with each other.

How about everyone else against twood? ;)

Once we get a few more people, it might be fun to have different mileage challenges? It can get a little demoralising watching one person shoot off to the front and know you'll never, ever get a trophy... Perhaps one for those who will run under 50 miles in a month and one for those who will run over?

Ok, went on my first workout in weeks Tuesday, brisk walk up my usual "mountain", and now two days later my leg are sour as ****.

It's gonna take weeks just to get back in shape... I'm gonna be dead last in all of the speed challenges for all foreseeable future... but, hey, someone has to be last, too, right...? ;)

Good job mkrishnan! I've got another 50+ miles before I hit my 200 :(

Just been for what I intended to be a 5k run but was still a bit from home when I hit the 5k so ended up being 6 and a bit k. I've never had my Nano tell me that I've gone a kilometre beyond my goal before :p

Can we post the code from the Nike+ site here to show our last 5 runs or fastest/furthest one? I know arn set something in place for the iTunes tracks just wondered if it might also work for the Nike+?

It's a good sign and a great feeling when you're just like, "Why not? I'm just going to keep running." :)

I continue to inch closer... I ran this morning and then gave blood, so I should be back up in running shape still tomorrow. Minor advantage of running in the morning vs. the PM and losing a day. :D I think I have about 13 miles left, but I'm very happy at my 2.4 mile (a mite less than 4 km) run right now....

Also I actually worked up the courage to run shirtless, at least in the early morning (when the sidewalks are pretty empty), and I really rather like it.

Ever since I've gotten home from vacation, my running routine has slowed down a bit. Quicker, shorter runs.

It's time to retire my current runners. I bought a lovely pair of Asics and Saucony's this afternoon. I know there are little pouches to buy for the Nike+ sensor, but all the salesmen at the stores I visited today were clueless. I'm having trouble pulling up a link. Anyone have it handy? Thanks

Which Saucony's did you get? Mine (Grid Omni 5 Ultimate) are coming due for replacement fairly soon.... probably in about a month and a half.

As for the pouches, this is one:

I honestly just jury-rig it....

I got Asics Gel Nimbus 9's and Saucony Pro Grid Triumph 4's. They both felt wonderful in the store. I'm really looking forward to running in each of them :)

Thanks for the link!

Find any stores yet, 'spider? I don't have any suggestions over there...

So I'm a half a mile away from 200. I lost a running day yesterday because my iPod was fritzy... I had to restore it in the morning, because it kept resetting after a minute or two. :( By the time it was restored, I didn't have time left to run.

Finally I got it all set back up, and now of course my iPod lost all records of my past runs (but they're still on Nikeplus.com) ... I knew that would happen, but I really wish Apple would make it so that runs got synced back to the iPod....

Anyway, so now my iPod thinks I've run 2.4 miles ever... But I'm so close!!!!

EDIT: I lost another run because I forgot to set the hold switch, and my iPod must've turned on and drained overnight Saturday night. Nonetheless, I did it. :D

thanks again ziwi for doing all of this :)

somehow i missed this thread though.

i think the group thing is a great idea. actually, that might be the key to getting more people signed up. so it's macrumors against the world!

i'm not sure about that. especially with QC back. he'll win this month for sure. i have a new co-op that's 50 miles away i have to commute to, plus working 40 hours a week (so basically 65 hours including drive time)

anyways, no more 30 miles in one day, and no 240 miles in a month. i have to stick to my new plan to be the best i can this coming track season.

That would be fine, but if I set it up I have to be in it and then I would win (because I run more than 50). That is why I was wanting more group oriented challenges. There is only so much one can configue with the site - if it was an elimination for example and I initiated it - I could not delete myself - at least I don't think I could...maybe I will try it to see on one of the distance or speed ones as an experiment.

I do agree that it is difficult to be motivated when the carrot is totally out of reach, but that being said. The true motivation is how you feel and how you look for sticking with it. You are a great example of that as you are now a 'real' runner. You used to put in 5-10 miles and now look at you, how do you feel - that is the real competition you against yourself and sticking with it. Keep it up.

Oh I know... and the 50 and 60 mile challenges that I'm running for myself are fun with the motivation to make sure I do them. Heck, I'm even taking my running gear on vacation with me

If there's enough interest in an under-50 miles, over 50 miles challenge then I'll be happy to mail out the invites to the under-50 one (since it's very unlikely I'll ever make that milestone!).

In terms of other ones that we could run, how about a US v Rest of the World MR challenge? Is that set-uppable?

yeah it was. I was pushed by another guy to my limit. I ended up doing 30 miles the last day to win (took me 7 hours). I'm sure its still on the forums. I think it was July

LOL, 30 miles on the last day? I wouldn't sacrifice my training that badly for the sake of one of these challenges!

it wasn't the first time that i did something crazy like that (80 miles on a mountain bike - about the equivilent to 30 miles running).

but it was ok for me to do that then. it didn't really mess up my training. but now it would.
