Here are some pictures of 3D printed models of the 38mm and 42mm Apple Watch next to the Motorola and Samsung competitors. The lesson learned from this exercise was that the Moto and Samsung watches were simply "too big" but both Apple sizes felt right. Could very well be biased by the material.

That's awesome. Thank you for doing that. Can we please get photos of you wearing both Apple watch sizes on your wrist independently? So one photo of each size on your wrist without any other watches.

Much appreciated! By the way any particular reason you use different color materials for each size?

We were having trouble with the larger size printing with the gray material. The lip is a bit of a challenge to print and kept warping just enough to cause problems. The clear material print was the first one that worked.

The 38mm looks so small compared to the others.

I think the same thing. I have smaller hands and wrists. I was hoping the 38mm would be perfect. That looks like it would be to small.

Wow, I'm surprised at how big the Motorola is.

Yeah, I didn't expect Motorola is that big ('ugly')... when compare to AppleWatch. I guess Apple gets the size right (as usual).

I thought the small one would look too feminine but that looks pretty well bang on...

bravo sir. My photoshop skills trumped by 3D printing.

38 looks great. so much power in such a small form factor. I think that's the one.

So here I come 42mm! I was gonna buy both and compare, then return the one that won't fit me well.

Is there anyway you could get your hands on a Pebble Smartwatch (Original, not steel) and compare that to both sizes of the Apple Watch? That is what I have now and I'm very curious as to that size difference...

I would assume it's that big to hide the bezel? Or it needed to be that big in order to properly display content without text being cut off?

It's really not. It's 46mm in diameter, which is only about 0.15" more than the 42mm Apple Watch is tall.

The lack of a large display bezel fools the eye.
