Converting to m4a to mp3 possible on Itunes?

It wouldn't let me... It said something like it's encoded for Itunes and cannot be burned, which I find to be just ridiculous. If I want to burn a piece of music that I paid for, then I should be able to - how can this be?

Is there some way to do the conversion? Otherwise, what do Mac users use to convert m4p to mp3? The only thing I saw when I Googled was video converters.

Open iTunes Preferences, then click Advanced, and select MP3 from the drop down box.

Select the songs you want to convert, and click Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3

But I did all that already - it's saying the file is "protected" and you can't convert to mp3. I'm trying to upload music to a music community page that links all the music to Itunes or Amazon, so it gives people a chance to hear the music and then buy it if they like. To do this, I need mp3 files.

Is there anything out there to help me convert m4p to mp3? Does anyone know if m4p is some kind of rights-protected filename?
 
no, you won't be able to because all of itunes downloads are drm. also to convert would be a transcode which lessens the quality.
 
Though most still do, not all of the iTunes Music Store downloads include DRM. The iTunes Plus tracks don't. The M4P (AAC) format is not by definition copy protected.

I tried burning to CD, but then when I tried the upload, it said it doesn't accept AIFF files. What is the "rerip" part of your post entail?

I'll look into DRM Dumpster.

When you burn to CD, it's just like a regular CD. You need to rip it like you would your latest Celine Dion CD purchase - just make sure you rip it to MP3, not AAC. By the way, this file you're trying to upload to a website - its one you purchased from the ITMS? If so, I suggust you upload using your neighbor's WiFi, not your own. Don't want an RIAA lawsuite showing up on your doorstep, eh? :rolleyes:
 
OK, let's clarify a few things here.

- Purchases from iTunes will either be m4a or m4p files. The m4a files are not protected, but m4p are.

- The only way to remove the copy protection without potentially breaking laws is to burn a music CD. It appears that you have already done this.

- You can then rip the CD into iTunes as per usual. It will create an unprotected mp3 or m4a file (depending on your settings).

- Please check your local laws before sharing music with other people.

Just to remind you: If you are in the USA, and you manage to upload music to this "music community page", and the RIAA finds out, they can sue you and demand damages ranging from $750 to $150,000 per song. They have managed to get someone convicted and ordered to pay $220,000 for uploading 24 songs.
 
So...

You're looking to buy iTunes music, copy it, and then upload it to your own website with links to buy the song from other stores?

yeah...not sure that's a great idea.
 
Why to convert to MP3

I would like to play a song on my BlackBerry Pearl. The Pearl can't play m4p or m4a.
 
AAC to MP3

I've done all that is required (setting the encoder, converting the AAC files to MP3) but when I want to burn the MP3 songs to a CD, I get a message that there is a problem with some files which obviously were NOT converted to MP3 format. How do I solve this? I've some time now and would like to make some MP3 CDs for the car ... but some lists of 130 songs are left with only 18 which are burnt as MP3 on the CD. Please help?
