How hot does your Intel 2.2GHz MacBook get?

just wondering how hot does your Intel 2.2GHz MacBook get? mine is pegging 80C while running Handbrake, Safari and Firefox all at once. 80C seems kind of toasty but the machine is running fine.

so I wonder if 80C is normal or is this on the warm or hot side for this CPU inside an Apple laptop?

please discuss.
 
It shouldn't run that hot. I suspect you have a rogue application running. Have a look see if anything to do with printers is running. I found this on mine, and about 3 seconds after I deleted the print job, it went down to 30c!
 
Firstly, How do you guys find the temp and secondly i just got my macbook yesterday and its getting quite hot on the left side on the palmrest and the speaker. I guess its where the processor is but according to me it shouldn't get hot enough for you to feel uncomfortable while typing.
Please advice.

Mine doesn't get uncomfortable, take a look at your temperature readings and post them back here. However if it is uncomfortable your best course of action is probably phoning apple.

I've found that mine gets a little warm if I have it plugged in charging, as well as my iPod plugged into the USB port on the left. Is your's plugged in/have any USB devices hooked up?
 
It really depends on what you mean by "quite hot". The aluminum books in particular are hotter than the polycarbonate plastic books. For example, my iBook is usually around 51-53 degrees when on my lap or on my bed. However, I don't think 80 is normal for any laptop. Something is stressing the computer. Find out what it is (and fix it), and it'll start to run cooler.
 
191F. I tried to do a cpu stress test for over an hour. Pretty much let it run at 100% while I took a nap. Also I have divx video playing through VLC, safari, iChat, apple remote desktop, entourage, and iTunes.

Surfing and video running without a hitch.
 
Around 50 is normal but when I run Cubase + heavy FX + VSTis it can reach 75.
I'm gonna buy the cooling pad and see if it helps at least a bit.
 
yea, when i am surfing the net, watching youtube videos, have word, itunes, powerpoint running, its usual temperature is 54...however i have managed to push the temperature upto 75ish (watching a whole lot of videos as once) never more than that... 80 seems to be a bit too much! also the most warm part of my mb is the the bottom of the top left of the notebook, where the processor is... my palm rests dont warm up....just thought you guys would want to compare your SR mb with the pre-SR blackbook
 
Okay i downloaded iStat and see CPU A temp as 55F and i am jus running Safari.Its not very comfortable on the left palm even at 55F. Is that normal with this kind of processing?
I am a brand new mac user, just 2 days old :)

Here's my temps from iStat for my C2D 2.2 MBP:

I currently have open a few programs (Firefox, MSN, Thunderbird).
 
In Leopard, mine averages around 58-65c just running Safari and Mail. I also have a USB drive always plugged in so it is a little warm near where the USB ports are.

I hit 80+ easily working on a photoshop file or watching a youtube clip.

I don't see it as a concern as long as your fans work they'll cool things down. Just be wary if they are spinning full blast all the time.
 
Without SMC Fan Control on, I get between 50-60C during normal use

With SMC set to 3600RPM, I get around 47C doing the same things
