while we are all on the subject of Temps, what is the standard temp in Farienheit for the 2.2 MB

My Istat is telling me that CPU A is registering 113 degrees or so, heatsink A and B is 110, well all my temps are in the hundreds (farenheit) except for the bottom enclosure and my hard drive. the only program i have running is this window i am typing in right now. yet my computer doesn't feel that hot.

I just got my 2.2 yesterday (first macbook ever :D) and noticed when charging, it was rather hot. Hot enough to be uncomfortable on the left leg/knee.

I suspect its the battery as that is where the heat is coming from. I've had it on this morning (not on charge) and it was quite fine.

When it is charging the battery area can get quite hot.

Where abouts in Herts you from.

mine's got to 95C -

strange thing is the outside doesn't feel that hot, whilst my Powerbook G4 never seems to get hotter than 30C and feels a lot hotter.

I wonder about the accuracy of these temperature monitors

That's because your powerbook is aluminum and the macbook is plastic.

True. I guess the insulating properties of the macbook mean that the heat is transported out via the fan, whereas on the powerbook, my knees become a fleshy heatsink for the processor..

For those of you reading temperatures above 95C, just be warned that the "kill point" of the C2D processor is 100C. It'll take more than that, but be careful.

Haha, Yeah but that's what you get when a computer company is so concerned with aesthetics.

just wondering how hot does your Intel 2.2GHz MacBook get? mine is pegging 80C while running Handbrake, Safari and Firefox all at once. 80C seems kind of toasty but the machine is running fine.

so I wonder if 80C is normal or is this on the warm or hot side for this CPU inside an Apple laptop?

please discuss.

The C2Ds are rated to run normally at 100C. 80 during handbrake is normal and perfectly fine. Dont listen to anything else..

the Kill point is not 100C It is at 100C that the processor "throttles" back the speed to reduce heat. 100C wont kill it.

Under the fullest load I've ever put my machine under, Safari, Transmission, an Episode of Heroes in Quicktime, the hottest it's gotten is about 80 c. Otherwise it runs at about 40-55 for simple stuff.
