No, they let you upgrade after 18 months, not 12 months.

They always let me extend after after 12 months -- I've always got a new phone after a year on most of my lines... this is before the iPhone came out.

Yeah, except they let you upgrade after 1 year with EVERY other phone they sell. So people are a bit shocked when you can't upgrade just because its an iPhone.

lol, wrong. do you people just make crap up as you see fit? It's 18 months

Well, its 12 months for me, I buy a phone every fathers day for my father and its the subsidized price every single year at the same time. (Not an iPhone)

so if i decide to upgrade and order the 3GS on apple, do i just take my sim card out of my 3G and put it in the new 3GS?

You are both correct. The key is that it varies by individual line. Some will be eligible every 12 months and others in the 18-21 month range.

It is based on many factors but the easiest one is the MRC, so if you are on a FamilyTalk plan and you have the add-a-line at $9.99 you will get a much longer contract window before you are "Upgrade Eligible" for that full handset discount.

A new SIM card will be in the iPhone 3G S. All you'll need to do is activate through iTunes + restore to get data/contacts back.

so does new sim card means new phone number also or do i get to keep my original number on my 3G?
