The entire idea of 3-D navigation and console interaction is actually pretty stupid.. considering a monitor is 2-d.. .. until we see some 3-d monitors (which i know are in the works.. ive seen a few threads regarding them) 3-d navigation will never be as effecient as the navigation we have now...

how about like if you could walk into your computer and grab files and stuff.. that would be fun.. yeah i'm going no where with this one. i'm gonna go eat a corndog.

all you'd need is a touch screen LCD and speach control and a mac running this 3DOSX browser would look so far ahead of windows M$ might aswell as give up and concentrate on heXbox :)

It does remind me of the scene on jurrassic park though, I remember seeing that they were all macs and the girl saying something like "wow, it's a unix system" and this whole 3D browser thing was being used.

it looks cool but I can't see it being practical, more something to show off you're mac.

LOL, that was a funny scene. The little girl saves the day when
she flies through the 3d computer system and she is like 10 years
old. Funny stuff.

It reminds me of how in 'Hackers' the main character 'hacks' by
flying through the city on his computer... More funny stuff.

I don't totally agree here. I think the implimentation of a 3D navigation system can easily be developed and *used* as a standard - it just hasn't happened yet due to the overhead associated to displaying 3D. Think of it less as being all emersed in a 3D environment, but the file management system we have now (which like you said works fine) but with 3D elements and relationships. So folders and files might have the same relationship (with options of course) but use 3D objects for representations. Also, if you entered a folder that contained 3D objects, they could have 'thumbnails' of those objects rotating in 3D so you can see what the file is just by looking at it.

Hmm, got me thinking here. If I get around to it, I might make a 3D navigation system in flash and see if I can make it look like what I envision. Don't hold your breath on seeing it anytime soon, though.
