I would say that 3D touch would be beneficial once developers begin to integrate it in their apps. As of right now, I never use the feature.

I'm on the fence about returning my 6S+ and the main things that make me want to keep it are the camera and 3D touch.

I use it all the time for photos, IMO when used in unison with Live Photos it's a game changer.

Is it needed right now? No, but it is definitely the beginning of the future. We are very limited in how we can interact with our touchscreen devices, and up until this point it was literally just a 2D grid of points. Now we have a third dimension, with pressure sensitivity. In reality we are just at the very early stages in terms of things like haptic feedback, but 3D Touch is a very good start.

At the moment it is generally useful - I use quite a few homescreen shortcuts. Peek/Pop are nice but they don't really save that much time because the content isn't preloaded. Peeking on a URL usually ends up with me just popping into it because I don't want to hold my finger on the screen while I wait for it to load.

I really like it but it does take some getting used to. As with others, using it for the app switcher took a little practice but now it's become second nature. As more apps implement, the more creative the uses will become. I use it all the time for links and email. Adding things to the reading list for later when you peek is A+++ stuff. But it's hard to remember which apps are using it and which apps aren't (in app vs 3D touching the icon). I keep forgetting that Tweetbot uses it now, etc.

Please share your thoughts?

It's a nice touch. Pretty useful. Is it the sole reason to buy a 6S? Not for me.

Though I did see somebody praising it as game-changing because it allows you to read text messages without them showing as read, lol.

My favorite use for 3D Touch is pressing on the keyboard to turn it into a trackpad. Makes it MUCH easier to position the cursor where you want it to be. Especially handy when modifying URLs.

Other than that, I don't use 3D Touch much, but I believe there will be many more practical uses for it in the near future.

I find myself mainly using 3D Touch when switching through apps. Occasionally pressing down on the keyboard to use as trackpad. I'll use it more when maybe the quick actions are more customizable. For example in Messages, when you press down it will give you the option to go to a person you message most but I would prefer maybe the last three people I messaged. This is just me being picky. I'm sure once more developers begin implementing it into their apps it will be more useful.

I struggled with the app switcher at first but now I can do it every time and find it much easier than reaching down for the home button.

Is pressing hard on left edge of the screen the only option to trigger app switcher? I'm still struggling to get this to work especially on the home screen. If you don't leave your finger steady while pressing hard iOS thinks I'm scrolling the pages and won't trigger app switcher.

I definitely think it will be a critical feature down the road as more and more apps include it. They should also make customization an option, like if I could choose the people that show up when I press the messages app. Having it be somewhat random is really stupid. I'd force touch it, not see the person I expect to see then I have to open the app, making things take longer.

Try setting 3d touch sensitivity to light.

I use is extensively now, but as others have stated it takes some time to transition into it if you WANT to use it. I know plenty of people that aren't bothered to use it and it doesn't affect them negatively, they are definitely not disappointed in their purchase.

ATM all 3D Touch is really being used for is speeding up functionality rather than bringing in new features. I like to think that 3D Touch is reminding us that the phone user is the rate-limiting step when it comes to phone use, and that is how its should be because this phone is what the 6/6+ needed in terms of speed/responsiveness in larger phones.

It is so much easier to do without a case on. I have the apple leather case on mine and I have to put my finger half on the case and half on the screen to make it work.

Seems like a cool feature but no apps have 3D touch support so I can't use it. The few apps that have support have lame menu options filled with shortcuts to activities that I rarely perform within the app. Why would I want a short cut for that?

It is not a giant leap in my opinion. For all the extra hardware required behind the screen, I wonder if maybe it will be more useful later. At most it might save one a touch here or there but I have not been blown away with it's power.

I like it. I use the cursor trackpad feature frequently it is very helpful. I use other app features from time to time. I think as more developers incorporate it into 3rd party apps new and more useful features will come about.

Also as the other hardware manufacturers (android and Windows etc) play adopt their implementation of "force touch" it could become as standard as a fingerprint scanner.

because it is ios, i had to use a launcher app "to get more apps" to the bottom of the screen instead of 4 icons. so only time i use 3D touch it is with the launcher app...

I think its great so far and will get better with more developer implementation and restraining my current use patterns. 3D touch on the new Tweetbot app is awesome and significantly changes the way I use Twitter.

Yeah that must be it. I have a case that covered the edge of the screen.
