Is this a new feature on iPad Pro in iOS 11? I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere before...
I know iPads do not have 3D Touch, so this was interesting to see on Apple's site.

It's a popover - tap and hold. Right now it's super buggy because the system is co fused whether you want to drag the icon or access the popover. It works on regular iPads too. There's no iPad with 3D Touch.

Worth nothing that iOS 11 brings a lot of 3D touches more useful uses to non-3D devices like the iPhone 6 & iPad. Control Center is the best example, but you can also long press on notifications access expanded rich notifications on a 3D Touch enabled device, which is a huge improvement from sliding on a notification and taping 'view'. Apple's slowly admitting 3D Touch serves next to no purpose.

3D Touch is useful to preview links and access the app switcher, other than that is a super gimmick.

I use it for quick access to Wifi and Bluetooth on the settings icon, quick links to message people and numerous other apps for shortcuts to doing things. Its far more wide ranging than what you specify

No way. It's extremely useful in the keyboard, almost every Control Center toggle, quick-respond from the lock screen, etc. I wouldn't buy an iPhone without it.

Oh, correct, I also use it for the Settings shortcuts and Keyboard. I stand corrected 3D Touch is great lol.

I found it guys: the solution to my original post.
Its a new feature in iOS 11, presumably only applies to the Files app?

See 16:10 in this video:

I read an article that stated that 3D Touch is not on the iPad Pros because it conflicts with the use of Apple Pencil.
And Apple Pencil support is not on the iPhone because of the same reason...conflict with 3D Touch.
The article stated that Apple may be able to find a way around this in the future but only time will tell of course.
I was so hoping for pencil support on the iPhone 8.
I am not sure but I think the article was from iMore.

Surely that can be solved with software?

Is there no way to trigger a similar tool to the 3D Touch text cursor navigation on iPad? I can’t seem to find any way but that’s the absolute most useful tool on the iPhone.

Two fingers anywhere on the keyboard

The lack od 3D Touch on the iPad Pro is really throwing me off, I keep on trying to use it all over the place since I’m so used to it from my iPhone. Odd they wouldn’t have implemented it buy now on the iPads.

Isn't the point that Apple are now extending access to these functions via a simple long press, meaning the need for 3D Touch is greatly diminished?

Can you do this on the non-3D touch devices?

It's certainly possible. They're only a few years from having no OS support for non 3d-Touch devices, so I suspect these won't be long term implementations.

This is odd, it seems obvious to me that these features can't both exist. Surely it's just completely broken if both features are available through the same method? What's the solution exactly, do they plan to drop one feature for the other? Bizarre.

Apple could've implemented software short hold to preview links without the 3D touch. Same thing with moving the cursor in the keyboard.
And with Apple allowing non 3d touch devices to access 3D touch features makes it pretty much next to useless
