I assume it will be as hard as I need to press to force touch on my watch. I'm hoping I'm wrong, as that's pretty darn hard.

You consider that hard?

Have you tried just resting your finger on the screen and seeing how much force it takes for the screen to JUST start to shrink? It's probably mere ounces in pressure required. And very little more pressure is needed to "full depress" it.

With the phone, I'm guessing a little more surface area and more weight will actually make it EASIER to use 3D Toich in iPhone assuming the software engineers haven't built in "more resistance". That's along with hardware engineers....

Welp, I just tried it your way. No dice. And at that point I was pressing too slowly for any amount of pressure to register the force touch. I have to press quite hard, and, it seems, fairly quickly, to get it to register.

OP,

So, based on the title o your thread, please tell us how long you've been using Force Touch on a 6 Plus? You must be part of the development team, huh? Please, do tell us more.

Your experience should not be the norm.

I would take your watch into Apple or do a restart to see if that helps. You could also try a demo watch to see the difference.

It is really a light push to start activating Force Touch. Also, dry hands are a must in case you live in a humid environment.

If you need to press down harder on icons to use 3D Touch, you'd need more leverage on the phone. But I think the iPhone 6s Plus' unweidly size will start to bother some people. Take for example that camera icon at the top right corner. Not only do you have to wiggle the 6s Plus in your hand to reach that icon, but now you have to press down hard on it. I just feel 3D Touch made the larger iPhone just a little bit more difficult to use.

Astonishing that Apple never considered this...

I tried in on the demo models before I got it. It was just as hard as on my current watch. I don't have a defective one.

They haven't considered a lot of things over the years...
As for Force/3D Touch I'm still dubious about it. I wonder if it will be a boon or a hindrance.

I see nothing but upside here, especially as the technology evolves. Imagine, for example, 3D Touch combined with Apple Pencil's pressure sensitivity. The dual pressure combination would make the iPad into the best WaCom tablet ever made. I'm a designer, so that's the first thing that comes to mind, but the sky's the limit in terms of how this could and will be used. I think the only real question with 3D Touch is if Apple can cajole a majority of app developers to support it. Many excellent Apple ideas have died on the vine because only Apple software adopts them.

thats what the reachability function is for.
That can help with having an easier time reaching something that is in the top half of the screen, but doesn't really relate much to pressing harder and/or having more leverage.

Come on man!! Get in the gym then !!!

:)

I didn't say I had difficulty doing it, I said it was a fairly hard press, LOL. I'm hoping to not have to press my phone that hard, because I don't want to accidentally drop it.

Hopefully this 3D screen doesn't turn the 6S & 6S+ into a two handed phone.

The 6+ is already a 2 handed phone, this is how things are going. Get used to it. You were born with two, it's no detriment to use 2 hands on a phone, heck I even use 2 handspan on the time on my old 5.

I'd take 2 handed usage over a tiny 4 inch screen any day.

In iphone 7 , perhaps apple will leave out the physical home button, and replace it with 3d touch software home button.
The iphone 7 will be easier to use, because the top and bottom bezels will shrink considerably. So you will be able to use it one handed. Could be the screensize will increase when that happens, especially more screen estate on the sides of the phone. 3:2 screens instead of 16:9?

Has Apple specifically told you that they will shrink the bezels considerably?

Also the home button is an iconic feature of the iPhone and one that will not disappear for a very long time.

Or swipe up from the bottom and its in the far right hand side... Where I have my icon for camera its in a folder so its never used I always use the shortcuts (i.e above or lock screen)

Either way even if you had the app on the main screen I assume you wouldn't always have to use force touch?

As much as I agree with you, it wouldn't surprise me.

Next year will be 10 years if there is any a time to change something major why not do it on an anniversary?

You can adjust the 3D touch pressure in settings.
